I recently purchased a used gas tank for my 64 SS. The tank has been dry for years. My question is whats the best way to clean the inside? I don't want it "boiled" out, just cleaned. I've heard denatured alcohol, simple green, acetone, lacquer thinner etc. What do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance

Sitting empty isn't good, unless it's from AZ or somewhere really dry. Condensation will form inside and out, and cause surface rust. I'd take it to a machine or radiator shop and give it a dip in their "de-rusting" solution if it where me.

Try the metal cleaner for cleaning body work before painting. Like "metal prep". It will burn off all the crud.

The Eastwood Co. has a kit to clean out and coat the inside of gas tanks. I used it on mine and was very pleased with the results.
