My gas gauge when it is full the red line reads way over by the idiot lights could it be that the guts were put in wronge?

My 1969 Concours has the same problem. I found out the hard way when I ran out of gas when it still read 1/4 tank! I cleaned the ground back at the tank, but that made no difference. I'll be keeping an eye on this post to see if anyone has a solution.Good luck.
