I am converting my 64 El Camino from column-shifted PowerGlide to a Muncie M-20 four speed. I would like to know if there is a measurement or locator that one can use to weld the Z-bar bracket to the frame in the correct location. I have looked the frame over and there is no indication of where the bracket should fit that I can find.

I used a piece of 1/2" threaded rod and screwed it into the block where the pivot ball goes.

The end of the rod---if cut correctly will show you where the bracket goes.
I have a pic at home I can post later

Bryan's method above is an old time tried and true method of locating the proper position for a welded-on Z-bar bracket.

Beginning in 68, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL frames, REGARDLESS of whether or not the car was factory built with an auto tranny, got the 2 holes punched in the frame rail for the bracket.
