I just got a 71 chevelle every time I start it the engine turns very slowly then catches after 10 seconds. Is this the starter? will a starter off of a 92 chevy 350 l98 work?

There a few things to check before throwing parts at it. If the timing is advanced too far, it will cause the starter to turn over very slowly. If the battery cables are corroded and/or deteriorated, it will cause problems also. If the battery is old and weak, same thing. You need to troubleshoot these things first. And I don't think the 94 starter will work.

I think its heat soak the brand new starter I have sitting around is for a chevy 350 and is the same. I have a extra batterey so Ill try that
