Our 67 Chevelle has a repop hood & louvers and there is a fitments issue. The louvers have a gasket on them that looks like weatherstripping and they will not pull down enough for the speed nuts to take hold on the studs. My thought here is the gasket is too thick and I cannot put enough downward pressure on the louver to get the nuts to start and I am thinking about taking the gasket off and replacing it with a thin sheet of neoprene in its place to act as a gasket. I know part of the problem is fitment issues with repop parts. Does anyone have any better ideas on how to get these louvers to pull down for the speed nuts to bite and tighten up?
Now to the other end. Is there a gasket between the body and the tail light housing and also is there a rubber seal that goes over the studs? I know there is a gasket between the housing and the tail light bezel, but not sure on the body to housing. I have not found any gaskets/seals from any supplier. So if they are to have them what do I do/use?
Thanks

About the gasket on the hood, could you try to 'filet' the gasket so it's half the thickness?
There IS a gasket for tail light housing to quarter panel....I got mine locally from a supplier. You could make your own gaskets however if you can find the same type of material they're made out of or similar, since all the gasket does is outline the top and side of the quarter panel profile....it doesn't go towards the center or bottom of the mating surface at all. The gaskets are a soft spongy type of gasket, black in color and I used some spray on adhesive to seal them even better:yes: I also cut off the original studs on the tail light extension, and used 1/4 X 20 allthread, drilled and tapped my own holes and used nuts and washers to secure the housings to the quarter panel. The stud castings on the original tail light housings can snap off anyway if you force the speed nuts, so I figured it was wise just to do it right the first time(just don't drill too far!).

cobaltchev67- I am not sure there is enough gasket there to filet and not butcher it up. Anyone else have this problem????????
Thanks

No one have a problem with hood louvers fitting and how to pull them down tight?

Larry,
I have aftermarket louvers in a stock hood. I didn't really have a problem. Do you have the louvers pressed down as far as you can onto the hood? Wish you the best.

I didn't use any gasket on the hood louvers. Just tightend them down.
Just took them off to repaint the black (what a masking job that is) and I see a couple fo spots in the paint where they 'cut in' but nothing that would be a problem.

These louvers have been pushed, pulled down as hard as can be and the front studs like maybe a 1/4" or less of the speed nuts bitting and I want to take a bfh to them (I won't but am tempted). I hate to remove the gaskets, as I put a hood scoop on my 66 GTO without a gasket and had to have the hood repainted around it. The studs won't hold threads (taped one on the old set and when they got tight stripped the threads). May have to remove the gaskets and use either silicone or thin neoprene gasket.
Thanks
