ok here goes, i have a 9.8:1 355, dart iron eagle heads, edelbrock perf. rpm intake, comp extreme energy 274 cam .487/.490 , and now the problem. I have not go the car on the road yet and most of this fouling has happened at idle or slight revving. iv'e gone through 3 sets of plugs so far. I started with a new 3310S 750 holley then tried a 600 edelbrock and than a perfectly running quadrajet. And still no better. I started with a mallory unilite msd 6a and than tryed a regular HEI unit... hmmmm still no better. I have adjusted the valves 2 times for the hell of it and well, no better. Ive tested the ohms on the plugs and they are all good, different plugs, and even checked for to much fuel pressure (6psi). What am i missing??????? It fires at all cylinders does back fire at times. idles crappy and kills the plugs. Right now i have RT45s in thier. Even the little edelbrock at idle burns your eyes. I dont think my cam is that big. It will not pull over 14lbs vacuum no matter what. 8 degrees initial timing 32 total. Is it posible that the timing chain is off???? I would think it would have even worse effect on the motor. Thanks for reading.

I fixed my problem like that by just turning down my idle mixture screws from where I had them set way back during the winter. Amazing how outside temp affects that! My carb is a 3310 holley 750

Have you tried a larger plug gap, or a cut back electrode type plug?

How is your PCV? Maybe you have to much crank case pressure.

Did those heads come assembled? I'd assume the valve guides are good, but do you know for sure?

Stop swapping plugs altogether, just do the the Number 2 plug. Much easier and cheaper to tune. I'll swap out just it at the track to see how things are going for me. It'll be the most lean.
