Can some one define the problems of each of the starter noises, like click, spin, etc. The starter on my new project car just clicks. The car is a 48 Chrysler Windsor with a Flathead 6., it has a 6-volt power system with positive ground. Although, I don't even for sure know that the motor is loose. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would think a clicking sound would be the solenoid trying to engage, but not being able to. The first thing I would check in that case is the cabling for corrosion at any connection point. Then check the condition of the cables themselves. Then look at the battery.

I looked a little more at that solenoid. I found a spring that was attatched onto the solenoid plunger that was supposed to pull the plunger back. It was failing to do that. Maybe the plunger was bad? I sent it into town to get the whole starter and solenoid checked and rebuilt.
