As shown above, the Assembly Manual and all the official Chevrolet shop/overhaul manuals you can lay your hands on are the way to go. Take lots of reference pictures along the way since projects like this tend to take a lot more time than you think they will when you start and you'll forget stuff along the way!

Lots of pictures and Zip lock bags. Bag and tag everything. You will thank yourself when going back together.

Do yourself a favor, get yourself a good digital camera and photograph EVERYTHING!! As stated here earlier, zip-loc baggies and a sharpie to mark and store all the little pieces. The most important point is photgraph everything and store it on a computer. Believe me, you will use it as a reference in the future. Good luck and enjoy.

Where can a person get the manuals tht are shown above. I have a 70 that I am cleaning up and changing the front end to tublar A-Arms and totally new front end, cleaning the frame and bottom of the floor pans and repainting it all. I took pictures of the front end before and during removal of the parts and bagged every nut. I am replacing the inter wheel wells, and putting new power disk brakes instead of the manual drums it had. I have already forgotten how things went, so I look at the pictures and boy am I glad. The floor pans are good, and when I got to the trunk boy was I sad. Rotten rotten rotten. I don't know how it is so bad and the floor pans are so good. I have put Eastwood rust encapsulator on the frame after cleaning, and going to put Chassie Black over that. I wish I could pull it off the frame and do it better but I don't have the room to do all of that, so just cleaning the top of the frame with a toothbrush size wire brush, and doing the best I can. Any suggestions would be very helpful
thanks in advance

You might want to add the Chassis Service Manual to Brad's recommendation.

Thank you Rich Just went to the site and ordered the three books. $85 but probably well spent money. Can't wait to read them. Look and consider the next move. Probably will be the replacement of the trunk pans. pull out the old mig welder!!
thanks again

Scott and Eddy, some of this might help you out, it shows different screws to hold the pans down and various tools that you could use.

Don't use all the screws like I did its to much work for the average guy, but with the right size drill bit and hex head screws you can reform your pans a couple inches at a time if they don't set in there right.

Scott you got some good advice from these guys, but I guess I could mention this.

Save all your receipts along with any pictures, sometimes these frame offs don't get completed, and down the road if you decide to sell it you can show a potential buyer what was put into the car.

Another real important thing is not how much you get done, but the quality you put into it. When you document everything like each paint and primer that tells a potential buyer that you were carefull in what all you put into the car.

I may be telling you stuff you allready know, anyway.

Do the research up front on paints, primers and fillers, assure they are all compatible with the manufactures specs.

Get all your specific torque settings and document them also.

All of this takes time, but if you put a dollar per hour figure on your hours spent doing all the research and documentation it will add up to a lot if you do decide to sell it unfinished or finished.

The guys with the original matching numbered cars understand how much paper work means, but a frame off with the all the information that went into is just as important, original or not, spend the time.

I guess you could look at it this way, if you were going to buy a car and you found two that were pretty close to equal, one had documentation of every thing that went into it. Anyway hope this helps.

Good luck Scott, not much more to add from the above, bag, tag, pictures and notes to yourself. Just pay a lot of attention to the small stuff, clips, holders, specific bolts, washers and where they belong. You'll be ok, just take your time and document everything!!

Like Mike says, the small stuff, it will drive you crazy trying to find out how some of it goes back together.
Anytime I do any frontend work, like on my pickup, I count the threads on the tie rods and draw a little diagram, took it in to check the alignment and it was good to go.

That way it will save scuffing the paint up to a certain degree.
