Hi - I had a 70 malibu convertible when I was 16. I wish I had never gotten rid of it, but that was a past life.

My Dad recently bought a new fishing boat & didn't need the one he had borrowed from me years ago & so I sit with this john boat in my garage getting on my nerves.

I start goofing off on Craigslist & find 2 1970 el caminos. 1 is $2500, most body work is done, but the interior is junk & the rear quarters need replaced (new ones come with). The guy is real nice & as far as I know this car is still available.

The second ($2300) is a recently rebuilt 350 2bbl with dealer installed air. This one has a new interior & pristine floors, but the rear quarters are shot. Funny thing is the owner was willing to trade me the el camino for my fishing boat, a coleman generator I had and $500 cash!

SCORE!!! $500 cash & I'm in a 70 camino with air & a new interior!!!

Now the bad news - We don't actually do the transfer of goods until Saturday. I can hardly wait. I just hope the deal goes down.

These are the pics I have so far. Looks good from here - obviously it isn't a show car, but still. I'll have a lot of fun with it.

Hi Mark -

Hope your deal goes through!

Half the fun is driving 'em in the summer and the other half is working on 'em in our cold and snowy Illinois winters. Looks like you'll have the best of both worlds.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Welcome Mark.

Ya gotta love those orange 69's huh? I've been working on mine for a year now. Here's a shot of what it looks like now. I started a thread here on TC, when I bought the Elky, and have periodically posted progress pictures over the past year. Some of the older picture have been deleted, but the more recent ones are there. Here's a link to the thread.

Done Deal!!!

The only steel on the car that is good is the hood! Ha! I knew it was rusty, but wow! Not a problem though.

It runs like a top - rebuilt 350. I'll check the numbers tomorrow. new exhaust, new tires. I need to check the ralley wheels for the date stamp. New seat, carpet etc. All lights work as they should. Signals etc.

I smoked the tires & left a streak 400 ft long in front of my sisters house. Ha - I haven't done that since I was 16.

Yup - its a runner.

Anyone know a good body guy?:hurray:

I had left it at my sisters house over night in order to have my wife help me drive it home.

Wouldn't you know when we get there this morning it was 4 degrees above zero!

I knew it wasn't going to start.

2 kicks on the go pedal & it popped right to life!

I then proceeded to drive it the 200 miles to my house! The thing is a runner!

I can't wait to start playing with it. Now I just need some warm weather.

Thats what sold me on mine. It was going to be a flip and use the money for a chevelle. First time breaking the tires loose, and just seeing smoke out the back window told me I'm keeping this. You have a cool find and at a great cost.
