im going to be buying a small cheaper blasting cabinet to do small stuff in. like intakes, control arms, and other misc. small items.

what is the best all around media for a blasting cabinet? factor in mind doing aluminum, cast iron, steel, basically everything.

There is no best media for every application. If you had to pick one sandblasting sand would be the best but it isn't the best for everything.

I too, use the media sold by TP tools. There are different medias for different applications, but by far, it is good to go.

I use sand for everything, siphon, pressurized pot and bead blasting. Always use supplied air when I'm around it.

About $7 a hundred pounds.

I typically use silica sand. Make sure if you are blasting in the open (not in a cabinet) that you wear a respirator, especially with Silica Sand. The dust does really bad things to lungs!

Beach or pool sand doesn't have the sharpness for cutting, its like smoother.

i just picked up a box of 24 grit walnut shells with my blasting cabinet.
i am also going to pick up some sand too and try both.

I read someplace on one of the car forums that walnut shells leave a residue, but don't quote me on it for sure.
