K, i just got the engine running again today, it's a 350 with a 2bbl rochester, the problem is that it runs at idle just fine, but the longer it runs, the faster the idle gets and if you tap the gas pedal to try and free up the linkage, the engine gets faster to let more air in, but once you let off, the car dies because it floods out. The butterfly on the carb won't go closed, it stays locked all the way open if you rev the engine up. I've sprayed the linkage with carb cleaner but with no success... what could be the problem and how do i fix it. The choke thermostat is brand new so i doubt that's it.

Are you talking about the throttle blade shaft? The butterfly usually refers to the choke.
It sounds like you just need to get a kit and rebuild the carb. It should be disassembled and dipped in a cleaning solution and soaked for several hours. You can buy the cleaner at most any auto parts store. It sounds like it's gummed up pretty good. Be sure to replace the float while you're at it.

Ok, the carb doesn't need to be rebuilt, it was new when we put it on the car and is still in good working order, i did today find that there was a crack in the hose from the fuel filter to the fuel pump, fixed that problem there, however noticed a leak between the carb and the throttle body, think it was a faulty gasket, don't know yet, gonna replace the gasket and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

fixed the gasket, only to find that the choke thermostat is faulty, replace that tomorrow and the car should run great. thanks for the help
