I read a tread you had about noisey lifters in a boat engine you were dinoing. You said you found a set of lifters that were a little bigger in diameter. I think I have a simular engine problem and could use your advise. I have tried everything in my power to remedy the ticking. I have a new set of 101 cc heads ready to go on and this would be a good time to change the lifters.
The only thing that bothers me is I wiped a crane cam before this cam and would hate to to fry my newer comp cam with a set of new lifters. If the ticking is acually coming from the old heads than all will be well with the new heads. But if I switch just the heads and she still ticks than I have to pull the intake AGAIN.
BTW, the ticking gets louder with heat, and ticks loudest at 2,000 rpm's.
Any sugestions? Stacey

Stacey,
Kind of hard to say without listening to it. You need to get a mechanics stethescope and run the motor with the valve cover off and see if you can isolate the noise. Lifters usually get quieter as the rpms and oil pressure go up. The ones I had were hydraulic rollers, so changing them was not an issue as far as cam wear.
Are you sure it is not rocker arms or something else ? You did not say what rockers you are running, but several people have mentioned that Comp's roller tip rockers are noisy.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Bill,
Yes roller tip. Old stamped steel made the same noise though. Seems to be either all lifters or just all exhaust or all intakes. Comp PR down in Nashville CB 02, said headers will magnify the noise. All I know is, it is loud but hasn't shown any signs of bad wear. I probably have at least 5 thousand miles on engine and nothing has given up on her yet. I'm hoping the new set of heads will solve the problem. Stacey
