guy has a set of 12 bolt 3.31 gears out of a 70 elcamino for 60 bucks. So I go over and its still bolted to the open carrier. spiders, side gears, cross pin and all the bearings and races included. But he wants a extra 50 for the carrier assy. So was 110 bucks reasonable? Please tell me it was a fair deal so I dont feel so bad about it sitting on my shelf. Im running a lock rite in the camaro and chevelle, so the open carrier does have a use to me. Ironic thing is last year the same guy sold me a complete 3.31 12 bolt drum to drum for 250 bucks. JIm

Sounds like a great buy to me if they really are 3.31 gears and not damgaged. Only car guys like us would understand though

i sold the last set of 3.31`s I had for $125 so you got a good deal. I heard Richmond was going to start making them but other than that they are actually kinda hard to find for a good price. at least in my experience they were.

They dont repro that ratio anywhere. I would have paid that gladly.

I would also like some 3.31's. Have a set that had been stored for 30 years. When I till them out the box to look them over, back of the ring gear is pitted - box must have gotten wet when it sat in the barn. Options seem to be 3.42 or drop to 3.08's. I would bet new 3.25 - 3.31 sets would be popular with all the stroker motors on the road today, just don't need the deep gears anymore.

Funny how things come back around. 30 years ago, first thing we did was pull the 3.31's out for 4.10's (3.73's were considered "economy" gears). Today, 4.10's are deep even for drag racing.

Only problem is, ive got 3.31's in the chevelle and the 71 elcamino. The camaro is running 3.07's. so its not worth the effort to swap out. I got rid of a bare 12 bolt housing a few months ago because I couldnt find a carrier and gears cheap enough. I guess a spare is good to have around. jim
