Don't do it! You will create a bastard that will generate a lot of negative comments at any car event, cost you money & be worth less than it is now, make it harder to find engine parts, and you will not be able to sell it! Also, don;t forget the transmission and probably a modified/differerent drive shaft.

You should be able to find a good chevy V8 for the same or less money.

Are all the pulleys and accessory brackets with it? If so, I suppose you can make anything fit as long as you know how to fabricate. Personally, I wouldn't waste any time or effort on putting an AMC engine in a GM body. He got a transmission to go with it?

That 360 would be nice in a Gremlin or AMC Spirit

If your friend is just looking for some negative attention, have him put an AMC 6 cylinder in it.

There are a lot AMC lovers out there who would pay enough to build a real motor for the 70. Tell him to Evilbay it and put in Craigslist - if it is as good as he thinks it is.

It's tough finding parts for that AMC engine. I'm helping a friend rebuild the same for his AMC car. Better to use a Chevy engine for that reason, aside from those mentioned above.

The engine by itself is a good engine, and can be built relatively easily.

However, as 99.99 out of 100 people will say, it would be setup that would not be popular with anyone, and would have to be figured out item by item. Its not a setup I would spend anytime on. Probably not even eligible for a rat rod show.

Sell or give the motor to someone with a Jeep.

I happen to have a Jeep 258 six available if anyone wants one...

I will tell him not to do it he already has the original 350. But it has been setting for sixteen years do you think for $400 he could rebuild it

No, But you should be able to find a small block that runs for that. (Heck, I've bought complete cars & trucks with 350's in them for that)

He can sell the AMC for some money for sure, add in whatever his old SB is worth to somebody as-is and almost have the dough for a fine running SB350.

Seriously - even something smaller than a 350 would be easier to deal with and less grief as long as it's a Chevy!

You can put a chevy engine in anything, But chevy only in a chevy. Imho, engine should match the chassis. A buick engine in a buick, olds in a olds and so on.

Why all the extra work to make a bastard out of a nice car? Just go buy a crate motor or something from a local wrecking yard or hot rodder. By the time it's done it won't cost anymore then trying to match up all that mis-matched AMC stuff. Silly idea!

Your friend is an idiot, why not just put a chevy engine in it? He dosen't deserve a chevelle if thats his line of thinking, not even a 4 door, tell him to trade it for a ricer or puckup truck or something, sounds like your friend wouldn't have the know how to fix it anyway.

Stick with a chevy motor. A friend of mine stuck a 428 pontiac in a chevelle once. That was a straight swap because of all the lemans parts available. But once his 16 year old son got the car, out came the poncho and in went a 305.
Question to ask is. Why does your friend want to put these orphan motors in his chevelle?
is it a cost thing? Does he think he's saving money up front is going to save money in the long run?
Or is he just going for the Im going to be different and I dont care how much money it cost and even when Im done, nobody will want the car?
Or is it just he got a roller and wants to just get it driving? After he figures what he really wants, let us know and im sure someone here can come up with a good/economical plan. Jim

Always True: "No Replacement for Displacement"

If you are going through he trouble to put something silly in a Chevy, make it a Cadillac 472 or 500.

AMC motors are for Jeeps!

WHY ????
I have a buddy that has a inline Packard 8 Cyl. for sale, Give some consideration to a 4 Cyl. Pinto engine. A think a 4 Cyl. Pinto engine would look real nice sitting under a domed hood in a Chevelle.
I think, You are not taking your medicine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if he is just trying to be different then cool but if he is just finding these motors very cheap surely there is at least a lowly chevy 305 that runs well in your area on the cheap too.

Just take out the entire driveline & cut out the floor pans ahead of the seats.

-Flintstone Mobile.

Tub it out, then get a full-wide stone cylinder for the rear.

I know where you can get an old beetle engine cheap, if you're going to screw it up, do it right.

Big Caddy 472 would be a great swap. This is a popular bolt-in for Chevy/GMC trucks.

I installed the 460 BB a couple of times  not hard at all IMO, I should mention that they were 454 BB Chevy's with .030 overbore.;)

tell him to sell me the chevelle, ive got a 60 over 396 laying around somewhere and im sure it would be very happy inside those fenders, if money's that tight he would be better off selling the car, or at least wait until a real engine is financially feasible, talk some sense into this guy:sad:

You ever get the feeling these posts come up just to rattle our cages. JEES what's up with these cannibalistic, pulled from some dark anal abyss brain matter.

Keep it GM and save the money. Not to mention the thing'll be a slug with the AMC motor.
