I have a 68 SS and when you put on the blinker thay blink a couple of times slow and then they go rapid! Anyone know what this might be? Thanks Steve.

This happens quite often when you hitch on to a trailer and plug in the trailer lights. It happens because the additional lamps put too much load on a flasher unit that's not designed to handle the extra amperage. Check all the bulbs first, if you haven't already done so. Check them very carefully even if they all appear to be blinking because sometimes the filament inside one of the bulbs will break and lay across the other filament, causing a short circuit. In effect, the current is now flowing from the brake/turn signal circuit to the lighting circuit, and it's now sending voltage to ALL the lamps. This would cause the additional load and the rapid flashing. You may even have to pull all the bulbs and inspect them individually. These are dual filament bulbs, by the way. So you should see two distinct filaments inside the bulb. If one appears to be laying across the other, replace it. While you're pulling bulbs, this would be a good time to clean out the sockets. Poor grounds will cause this as well.

Your flasher is going out to lunch. Get a new one.

New solidstate flashers are the way to go.
