Not that I want to do it, but the thread about changing the oil pan gasket got me trying to remember the entire process of removing an engine.

Anyone have a link or was there anything posted here about this?

Spend $30 on a good Haynes or Chilton's manual for Chevy passenger cars. It will have step by step directions to remove your engine plus instructions for everything else on your car. A step by step post would take someone way to long to type up. Manuals are priceless when you are just learning to do most of this stuff.

Amazon.com: Chilton's Repair and Tune-Up Guide Chevy Mid-Size 1964-81: Chevelle 1964-77, Laguna S-3 1974-77, Malibu 1978-81, Monte Carlo 1970-81, El Camino 1964 (Chilton's Repair Manual (Model Specific)): Chilton Book Company: Books

Or you can order one at any decent auto parts store. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run.

During removal of the engine it would be wise to have a roll of masking tape, a sharpie, and plenty of baggies. Mark all hose and wire connections with white masking tape and number both ends of one connection with the same number. And put all bolts to one part in one bag and mark with sharpie. This will save tremendous amounts of time during install proccess.

If you are gonna do brain surgery, you'd read up first, right?
While not at this level, engine removal is easier when you have the book for your series of vehicle. Might as well ask for a few "How To" books for Christmas. I have been playing with these engines for 30+ years and I have a pretty good reference section, looking up stuff all the time.

Step 1. Label and remove everything that's in the way.

Step 2. Lift engine out using a safe method.

Step 3. Installation is the reverse of removal.

I could have written the Chilton's manual.

Here's one of many threads that might help a bit: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201775

I'm surprised the mods haven't created a sticky on this subject. ;)
