Well I don't know about the authenticity but the document dated 7/7/70 says GM Made in Mexico then the vin number. This is the first I ever have heard about Mexican GMs. I'm not so sure I believe it.

Yes they built Chevelles in Mexico. I recently bought a '72...I'm going to bring it back up to the states in the spring. All the parts are American, but it was manufactured here in Guadalajara, and has the speedometer in kilometers....

can't see the threads but they are most likely sheet metal screws.

That is interesting! It is not very far away from me, I may have to go look at it just to check it out! Can't buy it but would still be nice to take pics of for future reference! I would think someone from Canada would love this car because it is already in kph and probably relatively rare!

Have some photos of a 68 built in Mexico and the VIN plate appears to be attached with the same type screws, maybe machine screws? Anyone notice the original cost, 56,250 for a 6-cyl sport coupe? Gotta be in Pesos, can't be in U.S. dollars... Exchange rate in 1969 was about 10 Pesos to a Dollar, so about $5,625 or so ?

Enforcer505
Dec 16th, 08, 11:46 AM
was expensive because they have the the GM execs wage :)

blm
Dec 16th, 08, 2:43 PM
Exactly Dale, at $5,625 seems kinda pricey for a 6 cylinder plain jane car.

i find it kinda weird that they would import cars from canada if they had a factory there. my bud has a 69 heater delete that was built in canada for export to mexico.

I'm pretty sure I understand it now, the main indentifier of Cheby Chavelle's is the tiny chainlink steering wheels.

Boy if that's the case they musta imported TONS of them into the greater LA area during that era... :p

Wow !! I love those chain steering wheels. Must have sold at least a hundred of them at swap meets. People looked at them, laughed at them, made fun of them, but they came back later when no one was around and plopped down their hard earned greenbacks.
