i need to lower the rear of my 70 elcamino.
there are no spring spacers back there, so how can it be done?
if you recommend new springs, i want a drag race spring.
but if there is a more simple teporary fix i would gladly hear it.

there are clamps to compress a couple of the spring coils together.
these are the same ones that when reversed will expand the spring coils and lift ....
if you don't want to change spring this could be a temp. fix. (try autozone-checker-pep.boys-etc...)
should be easy to find some shorter springs from another car to try :)
if you cut a coil off it will ride stiffer :(

i dont mind a stiff ride, but in these springs they have fat coils in the middle and they get smaller coils on each end.
also, what other cars could i try springs from?

:mad:ok you won't be able to cut them, i was thinking of the earlier years with only 1-pigtail end.
other cars to try would be other a-body GM cars like the 4-door or coupe versions with a 6-cylinder engine.
the spring clamps sure seem like the cheap/easy way to go......

I used the Moroso rear trick springs they gave me the perfect ride height.

Rather than cut them, heat them with a torch close to the bottom coils - a little at a time to drop the rear. This can be done with them in the car to see how far you want to go. Know where the fuel line and the brake lines are and stay away.

i know someone who heated their springs, and yes it did work, but the ride became very bouncy and they do not stop lowering over time. thank you for the advice though.
and i picked up 2 pairs of the spring clamps for $14. so i do believe this was the cheapest way.
also do you think maybe some coil springs from a mid 80's and up camaro would work?
