I have an LS1 427. I was told it was out of a 1969 Corvett or Chevelle. Does anyone know what this motor was optioned in.

Do you mean the L71? If so, that was a 435hp, tri-carb, solid lifter 427. Now there was also a ZL1 in 69 which was an ALL aluninum 427, installed in 69 1969 Cameros, and 2 Corvettes in 1969. But I never heard of an LS1 427. Also, in 69 the other 427s were L36-390hp hydraulic, L68-400hp hydraulic tri-carb, L88-430hp solid, aluminum head, 1 850 Holley. And last of there was an L89 aluminum head option for the L71. Was the L78-425hp an option in 1969? The LS4, 5 and 6 were 454 options.

The LS1 was offered in the full-size '69 Chevies only. It was basically the 10.25:1 compression, 427/390 L36, but with a milder cam and get this, a large diameter SINGLE-exhaust system with resonator. It was set up for torque, not horsepower. It put out 335 gross hp @ 4800 rpm. & 460 lbs/ft @ 3200 rpm (400 rpm. lower than the L36). Standard axle ratio with the TH400 was 2.56:1,and a 2.29:1 was offered. The brochure also shows hd 3-spd, 4-spd (close & wide ratio). Those all got 3.31:1 axles by default.

The 69 427 became 454s for 70. The LS1 became the LS4 (345 hp) for the big cars; the L36 became the LS5 (365/390). and so on.

Thanks guys, I'm not familiar with the big car BB engine options. A new one for me. Hey Danny, see what you can learn, even this old fool.
