: Better shocks on a budget?

Ok, so my driver front shock is toast...again (this is the 3rd time in 2 years, but once was because the adjusters rubbed a hole in it, that's been fixed). What could be causing this? Are stock size shocks just not going to work with being lowered a bit (maybe 1.5"-2" at most)?

Also on the rear, my air shocks are toast and I've been looking for an excuse to ditch them anyway...what are some good regular shocks for back there? Guessing I'll have to just measure length for them since my ride height is not stock, but not really a set "lowered" either?

My setup: front are 750# springs with speedway adjusters, SS sway bar, stock on SS everything else

rear are hotchkis springs with 2" spacers, adjustable uppers, SS boxed lowers, stock connecting braces and stock SS sway bar, lakewood style traction bars to prevent wheelhop and just stiffen things up a bit

I'd like something cheap for now since I'm broke but can't deal with the car trying to walk on the road, and some ideas for what I should go to later.

Thanks guys!

I run cheap "Street Stock" dirt-track shocks from AFCO. They are harsh, but they work for my budget and stiff springs.

i am going to go with the revalved bilstein shocks. which are hotchkis. i think they are about 80/100 each. i know not really budget. but when lowering, or raising anything above stock, you need a shock that works with it.

I have AFCO 1020s on my car now with 925# springs... very harsh (think 3/4-ton truck  ), next year I'm going back to the 700# springs and the softer AFCO 1021s.

thanks!

I don't mind harsh, I had some of the KYB shocks on there for a bit, but they were bought used on here and someone put vice grips on the shaft so it cut the seal after a while. I liked the feel I had with those and the springs, but it still wasn't anywhere near "too stiff" or "harsh" for me.

Ugh I need to get a job soon...haha

i'm using cheapo Gabriels from autozone - they have a lifetime warranty, but i think i'm bringing them back fro my money back. I have heard the monroes are pretty good for the $, plus a lifetime warranty too.

I'm using the AFCO 1020 on the front with a 750# spring and it feels great. My truck is a lot bumpier, but it has a small lift. Rear I have AFCO 1031 with 175# springs. This is a ride quality judgment, haven't pushed it too much handling wise.
