Team,
When I bought my car last year the guy told me the blower had been making a funny noise so he had unhooked the wire in the engine bay. Please keep in mind I have never worked under the dash in the heater area before, so I'm going to be a little slow understanding the help. While I had the motor out earlier this year I saw a random orange wire in the engine bay. I then saw on the forum where the orange wire should connect. I was able to get my hand contorted enough to plug it in without removing any fender stuff. I thought this might give a whining blower, but it didn't.
A side story, my friend was under the dash last year attempting to do look at the control panel for the heat because that is where he thought the problem was (before I found the orange wire). He arced something down there and I made him get out before he started a fire.
So basically there is an unlimited number of options why my blower doesn't work................... can you guys start helping me eliminate them?

1. Have you checked the fuse after the arcing?
2. Is there power to the blower motor resistors?
3. Is there power AT THE MOTOR TERMINAL?
4. Does the motor have a ground wire that is actually connected on both ends?

Ok, this is weird. I have had the orange wire hooked up for about 8 months now. I have played with all the knobs. I checked the fuse after my friend messed out behind the controls.
So I just went out in the garage and took the dash off to get better access to everything. I saw there was a plug on top of the heater box that had three wires. I thought to myself "what would it hurt to pull that off and see if there is keyed power". I pulled that connection off and checked for 12 volts. I thought maybe these wires were for low, medium and high fan speed so I played with the switch. I got nothing. I then decided to go back under the dash to check fuses. I had to find a new ground for my tester since I was on the other side of the dash and I wanted to make sure it was a good ground so I turned my ignition on to test on "ign" on the fuse block. When I did that the blower started working!!! Never in my two years has it worked. I have no idea what I did, but its working. I reconnected the wires on top of the fuse block and now I do have a low, medium and high speed.
However, the previous owner was right. It sounds like a dieing rabbit sometimes, but at least I know I've got power. This has been a weird outing. I think God decided I've had enough bad luck with this car this year and made the blower just start working.

So I took the car for a test drive now that I seem to have a blower motor working. However, I don't seem to be getting much of anything even on high (I can hear the motor going). I think I felt heat radiating towards my feet, but nothing noticable in the vents. No matter where I changed the controls I seemed to be getting a very slow cool air in the vents. Now if you guys could fill me in a little on the controls.
Obviously the knob on the far left is for fan speed. I can figure that out.
The top horizontal slide says "off" to the left and "air" to the right. My car doesn't have AC, so what exactaly does this slide do?
The middle horizontal slider says "cold" on one side and "hot" on the other. I assume the controls a blend door that comes from the heater core to mix hot air with either air in the car or outside.
The bottom horizontal slider says "off" on the left and "defrost" on the right. I assume this controls a door that allows air to go into the "y" plastic piece that runs up to the window.
I guess my biggest question is the top controller, what is it going? Is there a way to control air to the vents?
I just realized there are the knobs by the door. I've never been really sure what they do. Maybe that was part of my problem. I have never owned a car with these types of controls. Can someone fill me in?
I decided to move my quest elsewhere, because it really isn't an electrical issue anymore.
