: $7500 for a '66 138 Code Roller?
cfChevelle Dec 14th, 08, 9:28 AM $7500 is too much, right? Opinions wanted.

jjjcamaro Dec 14th, 08, 9:30 AM for that one, I would say toooo much.
CT Mark Dec 14th, 08, 10:47 AM If it had the original motor, I'd say yes....maybe even cheap. Without it, I'd say $5k.
oldtimebaseballfan Dec 14th, 08, 11:01 AM Salvage vehicle, so the title will be an issue in some states.
No hood.
No engine.
No trans.
Needs complete resto.
I would say it is overpriced.
str8tpiperoar Dec 14th, 08, 12:04 PM Better shape for around the same $?

sg5492 Dec 14th, 08, 12:27 PM I would say 4k-5K
Chris R Dec 15th, 08, 4:26 AM Looks like there is a hole in the drivers side floor pan also. Doesnt say if the 12 bolt is there or if its gone. 4K tops and even then, its a toss up.
lloydt2442 Dec 15th, 08, 9:34 AM way too much for that car! I seen it at a swapmeet a couple of months back. its definitely a rough car.
AZCamino Dec 15th, 08, 10:29 AM Originally a bench seat car (per the trim tag). Buckets that are in it are not 66 seats. Originally a 4 speed though. Original colors are Aztec Bronze (per the trim tag and photos) inside and out. Somebody hot for an Aztec Bronze car, that could be built as an L78, might be willing to pay the price.

I know someone who bought a '67 Malibu last summer that has a solid body and a 283 w/PG and paid $7.000.00. He is have the rust floors and pans all replaced. The car needs paint. I think this is what you pay for a project. He is going to make a SS clone out of it and will put a BB and a SS hood. I think this 66 is the better deal.
Greg Dec 17th, 08, 7:35 AM How can it be a true "SS 396-350HP 4 SPD" Chevelle, when the 396-350HP and 4 SPD are gone?
That's convoluted reasoning.
This is a car that used to be an "SS 396-350HP 4 SPD" Chevelle.
Now it's just a Chevelle whos 3rd digit on its VIN is an "8."
You could get it and put in a big block chevy engine and a 4SPD...thus, in essence, making it sort of a copy or "tribute" of what it used to be.
But, since you'd have to do that, you might as well do it with a 136 VIN Chevelle instead of doing it with a Chevelle that is being sold at a premium price just because the 3rd digit in its VIN tag is an "8."
Either way, you're basically putting together a "tribute."
This goes back to what I've said in other threads...
There are a lot of Chevelles around whos VIN prefix begins with 138, but not near as many original, true SS Chevelles.

-Greg

I can see both sides to this. However I dont agree with your statement that its not a TRUE ss. It may not have the original equipment but there is no doubt that the car is a ss. either way. still to much for a ss roller.
Andy69 Dec 17th, 08, 10:06 AM needs to have an engine and all the parts for the price. And be rust free.
Andy69 Dec 17th, 08, 10:07 AM Greg makes a good point.
The difference is, with an 8, it will always be considered a true SS, regardless of whether the original engine is in it or not. It does make a difference.
LS7 Dec 17th, 08, 10:32 AM Note to self; tell everyone I come in contact with that owns a documented SS with NOM to rip those SS emblems off their car, NOT!l:)

I see many SS 138 show cars with NOM motors. It doesn't make them any less than true SS's.

Okay fellows, let me relate two things that I've spoken about in a couple of earlier threads...
Last year I saw an advertisement that read;
"Genuine 1969 396 Chevelle SS documented RPO Z25."
The ad went on to state "this is the real deal."
When I called the guy up and talked to him on the phone, he told me the car had a 454 in it from out of an '82 pick up truck.
Now, you can say whatever you want, but to me, that is not the "real deal."
There is no way that is an original, genuine Chevelle SS 396 RPO Z25...regardless of how you try to spin it or slice it.
That is a car that used to be an original Chevelle SS 396 RPO Z25.
Also, I have related before that in my town there are two 1969 "383" Plymouth Roadrunners.
One of the Roadrunners has the original, numbers matching 383 and 4 speed that it left the factory with.
The other Roadrunner has a 440 in it from out of a 1975 Chrysler New Yorker.
I have seen both of them parked side by side, and I can guarantee you that the numbers matching 383 Roadrunner has a much greater feeling of legitimacy about it then the Roadrunner with the Chrysler New Yorker engine in it.
The Roadrunner with the Chrysler New Yorker engine almost feels like a clone when parked next to the real deal.

-Greg
RyanNilcea05 Dec 18th, 08, 12:38 PM Way too much money IMHO. My number was $2,500. The only SS item on it now is the VIN. I wouldn't bid any more than a Malibu in the same shape.
