I've got a 67 conertible with the original 327 in it. The carb is not original, i've got a 625 Demon carb on it. When the engine is cold the car seems to bog down especially at higher rpm. I've even had some backfiring occur. It seems to be backfiring from the exhaust, not the carb. When the engine heats up she runs great. If I let the car idle for a while, it loads up again and runs poorly. I adjusted the idle mixture screws, theres four of em, to lean it out, still nothing. As an added note, it diesels a bit when I shut it off. Any suggestions?

What do the plugs look like? Bet they are fouled with lots of black crud because you are running too rich. You can try adjusting the choke, but will probably only help a little. What jets are you running on both sides?

What is timing set at?

I have no idea what it's timed at, probably should check. I've gone through a couple sets of plugs with it and they are all really heavy with gas. I leaned out the idle as best I could. How do I lean out the carb even more? As far as the jets, whatever came in the carb from the factory is whats in there, no idea what they are. I adjsted the four idle screws until the idle started to come up and then adjusted idle. It still smells like it's running rich though.
