Hello. I took my 69SS out for a drive to the lake on Sunday. It was a great day and everything was fine until on my way home. I heard a popping/hissing noise every now and then like it was missing. It only did it once or twice at first. Then after awhile it was doing it constantly. Especially when I stepped on the gas. Did I foul out a plug? What is that popping noise? It even does it at idle. I just had the carb tuned last week. We were trying to get the slight hesitation out of it. I think the squirters were changed. Maybe I'm running too rich now? Please let me know what you think.Thanks.

Well, you need to dig in and pull the plugs and start troubleshooting. That's as good a place to start as any. See if any of them appear black. Dry, sooty black indicates an overly rich condition, while a wet black appearance would be a sign of oil fouling.
What you're describing actually sounds like a wiped cam lobe, but let's check the basic tune-up items first before removing the valve covers.

Hello, Well the motor was torn apart last night and we found 2 broken lifters which in turn messed up the cam. This cam was just put in last year. I was told this is caused by over revving but I didn't over rev it that I can recall. The cam that was in there was a crane cam. What kind of experiences have people had with crane cams? I am having a comp energy cam and lifters put in now. Is this a better idea? Please offer suggestions. Thanks.
