Can anybody help? Yes its another dash swap question if anybody is up to it. Its a 72 elcamino 350 2 barrel originally. I have sucessfully I must say cloned it to a 1971 SS454. No intention of selling as a real one, just to enjoy! It is correct from the BB exclusive steering shaft to the correct harnesses and fuse block power wire conections. But enough of that, my question is this. After swaping dash and reinstalling correctly with all grounds and connections all was perfect, I couldnt believe it. After I recieved and installed the rebuilt date coded radio and fiber optic ash try lite all was perfect and coulnt believe it again. Now that being said after the radio and fiber optic light were installed within a day or two this started to happen and still does:
1.) If you are signaling left or right and the headlight switch is in the park light or fully engaged position all exterior lights function correctly but the dash signal indictor is opposite of what it should be.
2.) All of the above does not happen if the headlight switch is in the fully depressed postion, with the exception of when signaling left it appears that the right dash indicator is ever so slightly blinking as well at the same time.
3.) Finally, regardless of the headlight switch position when the hazards switch is oulled out the dash indicator signals dont work but it appears that one of the speedo dash lights is blinking? All the while the exterior lights are all physically working perfect.I biult the dash by hand using a GM manual and factory wiring harness diagrams. The vehicle has all new harnesses except engine as the amp guage I dont need. All other gages including tach work perfectly.Keep in mind none of this was happening prior to instaling the radio and fiber optic light.

Which ground? theres one at the headlight switch(round), Theres one at the wiper switch, metal backing of the gauge cluster, and one to the printed circut I believe. All are intact. Now theres one section of the printed circut above the amp guage thats been severed causing the light not to work but all was fine before.
Any ideas would be appriciated.

check grounds again, make sure you check the park/turn bulbs in all 4 lights/check all fuses.

I found one of the rear bulbs is a little smokey looking but it appears to be working, (could this be what is causing it?)I will change our all four anyway and see what happens.
I read somewhere that GM engineered this type of odd dash indicator light thing so that when a bulb was out or going out it was supposed to clue in the driver to take the car in for service. Any truth to this?

I changed all four bulbs but it didnt help, checked all fuses and grounds. I'm begining to think its a printed circut going bad.http://www.chevelles.com/forums/images/icons/icon9.gif:confused:

Marc -

It could be your ignition switch not indexing properly in the "run" position. If the electrical contacts are not lining up as they should, all kinds of weird things can happen.

I had that problem on a Pontiac back in the day. When I activated the turn signal, the radio turned on and off. When I stepped on the brake pedal, the gas gauge would drop to empty until I took my foot off the brake.

It's worth a shot.

Good idea, the column is the only thing in the interior I havent rebuilt. So here it goes:hurray: I replace the ignition switch turn signal switch and all other items I can that can be replaced. This will be my first column rebuild.
