The cowl induction on my 70 Chevelle SS 454 all of the sudden quit closing completely at idle or when you back off of the accelerator. Previously it shut completely at start up and idle, and only opened when you got into it pretty good. Now it does not close completely at idle, and just a little push on the gas and it starts to open--it seems to "float" on the acceleator pressure a lot more and seems more sensitive than it was--help--what changed?. Is this a vacuum leak that I have developed (looked and listened but not heard one), or is the engine trying to tell me something and I just don't know how to interpret it. Timing is OK. Next step I am planning on is buy a vaccuum gauge, reset the carb and start looking more for leaks?

You may want to look at the inline check valve. It went bad on mine it blocked the vacuum from getting to the actuator.

Or possibly a split vacuum hose bleeding off some vacuum.
