Its back again !

This "Yenko" L88 Chevelle has been for sale off and on for over 10 years.

I called on it a few times over the years.

Original color is black and it is not believed to be a real Yenko Chevelle

It may be a real 427 COPO Chevelle and looks like it was an old drag car

In the past the asking price has always been well over market.

Joe,The one who controls it's sale is a nut case, very very sad.Other brother who found it and has health problems is a lot easier to talk too. Info I got was the nice brother who found it in the Want Ad Press in 1979 or 1980.When he found it he needed the brothers money to buy it.Anyway I heard the original owner was a Attorney and the name on the car was Prosecuter.I think it ran at Lebanon Valley dragway...Dan

Joe I got a call from Bob about the car today some one contacted him and wanted to know if it was from Scuncio. Has anyone ever run an NICB or a DMV search on the car? It could be a COPO the trim tag looks right,I wonder what the rear end code is. Ed

Dec 13th, 08, 7:48 PM
I met the guy at the Englishtown swap meet one year but he wouldn't show me the car.
He is hard to deal with and his price was so high that I didn't really think he was serious about selling it.

I have not heard of any NICB report on it and never got a rear axle code from him and couldn't get a clear answer if he had a build sheet or not.

It may be a real 10 10 427 COPO Chevelle but it needs resto, has non-original engine, who knows what other problems. If it checks out, whats it worth in todays market?

He may have to take a zero off his start price to sell it.

Tony Scinto and Michael Scinto are the Good and Bad brothers .Both guys I talked to.My notes mention National Dragway but not Lebanon Valley NY. Car was from NY though.Original owners name was a Richard Thomas. Did a Zaba search and found a guy that was 46 years old in 1969.

Ed,Chances are with a common name of Thomas as the last name it probably would be a miracle if it was.He told me Reggie Jackson had one of the three cars built, but loss it in the warehouse fire he had way back when.Anyone know if RJ had a 69 L88 Yenko Chevelle? Dan

joe58
Dec 14th, 08, 3:48 PM
Reggie had/has a white Yenko Chevelle that was restored with the underhood cowl induction on it.

It is not a L88 as far as I know

What if they got it kind of wrong, maybe 1 of 3 427 L88's but Motion Chevelles. CHeck out Kevin Suydams 69 Phase III 427 Black Motion Chevelle and the 69 Phase III 427 Black Mexican Chevelle found with the Ralley Green Mexican 69 Camaro. I noticed there a 4 digit number stamped on the head on this car from a earlier post on the SYC site about this L88 1969 Yenko Chevelle.Remember the Blue 69 Motion Nova 396/375 from NJ posted on the SYC site that was on ebay recently,4 digit number on head. Anyone know the build dates, body numbers, vin numbers on Kevins car or the Mexican 69 Phase III car? Anyone have a picture of the engine pad on the 69 L88 Yenko car? Casting dates on heads and motor?

here is the info off the Kruse site.

You're going to need a dump truck to carry this load of manure

"Chevrolet aficionados will have the unique opportunity to buy a super rare 1969 Yenko Chevelle SC 427 “COPO 9562”. As known in the collector automobile industry, the Yenko/ SC Chevelle had a production run of only 99 with only 35 of its models surviving until today according to Corvettes-MuscleCars.com website.
The Chevelle to be auctioned in Boca Ration is completely unrestored, in 100% of its original condition, and riding on it’s race slicks from the early 1970’s when it retired from the drag strip. There is also some dirt in the fender wells from its last ¼ mile run back at the same time. The win stickers are still on the windows, and the time slips in the glove box. This vehicle has always been garaged and leading a very quiet life for the past 35 years. This car has rare 427 L-86 aluminum open chambered heads, which cranks out 600 HP. This one owner vehicle is balanced and blueprinted. Automobile collectors also understand this 4 speed Yenko Chevelle race car dominated its class in the ¼ mile with consistent elapsed times in the 10 second bracket and MPH of 125.
This is unquestionably a once in a lifetime opportunity to own what is believed to be the rarest Chevelle in the world. Of the 3 Yenko Chevrolets left with L88 engines, this is the only one known to have survived. Never offered for sale at any auction before, not many car enthusiasts have seen this incredible automobile, nor have they known of its existence since it disappeared from the racetracks over 35 years ago.

This "1 of 3" Chevelle was inspected a year or so ago by a *very* knowledgable guy in the Yenko/COPO niche of the hobby, and he had *nothing* good to say about it...his opinion was that at one time it might have been an original COPO car, but there aren't any original parts left on the car, and his exact words were it's "in pathetic shape". He commented that there were literally clumps of mud/dirt & rat feces all over the car...

IMO, the best thing that can happen is for the crazy brother to step aside & let the sane brother start over, and research it as a *possible* COPO Chevelle and then go from there...

Joe,I wonder if that car is Barry and Ernie Musser's 1969 Chevelle from Reading PA area.Theres a old post on the SYC site that shows that Chevelle from I believe Fisher Chevrolet? It was racing the 69 Black COPO 427 Camaro from Wallace Chevrolet Linden NJ. Camaro was called the Huckleberry Hound.Oh yeah I have a NED Northeast Division 1 1970 Annual program and on page 7 a black and white picture of it with Bernie and Ernie Musser standing along side of it.Bad 1/2 side shot but it does look black and can see the SS badge.Car shows Cragar SS mags on front though.

Rob,Joe C sent the quarter window pictures and others of the car.Stickers look like they have been there for ever.I use to own a Old 69 LB SS 4spd with a old Island Dragway sticker, very neat to see these from back in the day.I know of a L78 Nova Day II Time capsule that has the old Raceway Park Englishtown NJ class win stickers,so cool.Guy has owned this car since 1970. Too bad Joe C didn't get to look at this car too.Sometimes you notice things others don't when it comes to these old rcecars from back in the day.I would love to see his old time slips on this car if he has them too.It will have the car number, date and the track..Good info for history search. One thing I don't understand and I menioned before is "Why" would we take a Factory Black on Black car and paint it a Yenko offered Lemans Blue Copo color with Stripes?Personally I don't think was ever a Yenko, maybe I'm wrong but I have my reasons. Your survey on he SYC for color choices seem to be BLack is the number 1 color desired. This miserable idiot brother should not have painted this car blue, should of left it alone.Who knows maybe there was indications of original lettering on the black paint,. This idiot is not a guy that knows much, nice brother is the true car guy.

Yeah, I've got those pictures also...they look kinda old, but so does the bogus window sticker?! LOL!!

I think it was determined that it's a '74+ Verti-gate, but it's got the early style alt bracket, looks like an Air Gap mani, aftermarket air cleaner...who knows, but LOOOOTS of questions.

1968MotionL88
Dec 22nd, 08, 3:44 PM
Rob,Agreed the window sticker is a fake.Mr Gasket made Vertcal Gates, had one in a L78 68 White Reedman Nova SS 4spd car back in the 70's.Also Hurst made a V-Gate shifter called the Ram-Rod shifter.Joe Spino whos from JerseyCity NJand ran one in the 69 L88 427 Camaro "Born Free" car.He still has 2 of the shifters. His 69 car long gone, still has the 67 427 Born Free Camaro.Anyway I'll give Joe a call when they started using these in their dragcars,Joes real good with info like that. I put Anders in touch with Joe because he was very good friends with the 2 guys who owned the Convincer II 69 Lemans Blue 4spd 427 Copo Chevelle from Jersey City now in Sweden. He actually worked on the motor in the Convincer II and used the L88 Cam in it.Trans-End in Clinton NJ did the trans work on it.

Rob,In a prior post you mentioned someone that you know inspected the car,did he get the casting numbers off block and heads with casting dates? Any info on engine pad? These guys were also still running the L88 GM rocker arms back then, did it have them? What gears in the rear,410's,88's,56's or 513's.By the way GM made 513's,called Hi Impact gears R30. I have them in a old 12 bolt Nova rear with the GM 4 series posi. Date code is 8 70 (September 1970) on the GM stamped gears. Deep perches on the rear.I wouldn't be so concern about the air cleaner and intake since those are bolt on items per say.Just food for thought...

I don't agree with whitetop on a lot of things, but he knows his Day2 parts history, and here was his answer about which version VertiGate this car had:

"I noticed in an old pic the car had a Mr. Gasket Vertical gate. The first style came out in '72 and the second style came out in '74ish.

Not sure if this means anything or not but the vertical gate shifter in the car is the later style that came out in 74ish and on up. The first style had a litle round bar off the main handle and they were prone to breakage. It was a poor design. Mr. G then came out with the triangular shaped brace that was very strong. This piece is on the front of the shifter. "

Also, the numbers on the engine came back as a '68 L71 shortblock, with a Corvette vin, but non-original aluminum heads I believe...the heads don't have any bolt holes, iirc...?

This Mike Scinto guy has called a couple times in the past few months wanting information, but we've always been gone so mom has taken the calls, and he said he'd call back...but over the course of a couple years, I bet either dad or I has talked to him over a 1/2 dozen times, but have literally gotten NO WHERE...I told him he needs to approach it as simply a possible COPO Chevelle that *for some reason* someone tried turning into a Yenko, and then research it from that angle...but then he mentions the window sticker & strtipes, and we're back where we started...it's like I'm talking in circles? But I would *love* see a happy ending to this story...

Rob hes looking for the Yenko blessing so can make his $$$. I would also love to hear the true story of this car and not some BS story. Years ago when I first talked to these guys I was willing to help free of charge.Love researching and helping. But the Town Idiot brother was sooooo arrogant over the phone to me I could careless about its history back then. Anyway the NY,NJ location of this car also makes me wonder about Byrne Bros Chevrolet in White Plains NY.Can you contact Frank Arone and maybe he can contact the original owner of his Byrne Bros Daytona Yellow 69 Copo 427 Camaro dragcar for his input?

Chevy454
Dec 22nd, 08, 6:19 PM
I'm not a gambler, but *if* I had to put money on a dealer, and it being a "10 10", I'd *guess* Scuncio...as for Byrne Bros, dad's Red Alert Chevelle came from there as well!

1968MotionL88
Dec 22nd, 08, 6:31 PM
Rob,Possible, but Ed James and Bob Johnson (Scuncio HI Po guy back then) are the guys who have all the paperwork on these Scuncio cars.Eds a member of Team Chevelle/Team Camaro and posted on this car,but is also trying to figure it out.So we can assume since Ed James is trying to figure it out its not a Scuncio Copo Chevelle, right?

A one time, he said this "Yenko L88" was built by Warren D who was a Yenko employee in the 60s-70s. He must have found Warren's name in an old magazine article on the Yenkos.

I called and Warren said he never heard of the car.

The man can really tell a story - Maybe he missed his calling

Rob,Not that it really matters but I found this in a September 1971 Drag Racing Magazine,Hurst has announced a new straight line shifter for competition only called a Ram Rod. Found this in Super/Stock and Drag Illustraded April 1971.This has on page 61,A new 4-speed shifter which is being called the most revolutionary shifter design in 16 years was previewed by Mr Gasket. Our SS&DI sleuths have discovered that the design is actually the latest effort of the Beiber shifter Company of Downingtown PA. Beiber was recently bought out by Mr Gasket who is now producing the shifter. The unit in question is a straight-shift design, first straight up,second straight back, third straight up again and fourth straight back.Mr Gasket perfected the shifter on Dyno Don Nicholson's Pro Stock Maverick. Looks like both in 1971 but Mr Gasket was first...

If you have pictures of Dennis Ferrera's 70 Motion Camaro ribbon painted car he used a Bieber shifter before they sold out to Mr Gasket. Very crude looking too. As time went on changes and upgrades were made as products got better.

Pete,Joe Spino owned the Neighborhood Esso Station Garage in Jersey City NJ.Yes Joe had the 67 Red Camaro with Black top 427 car,Yes it did not say Born Free on the side of it,just the 1969 Camaro did.Pat M and Joe S were partners on the 1969 Camaro.Joe Spino did the motor work on both cars.Joe still has the 67 Camaro,I saw it in person and took pictures.I have a picture of the Old Esso Neighborhood Garage too.The 1969 BF Camaro was sold to the Restivo Bros of JC.They no longer have it,could be out there in NJ still. The 1969 Camaro was a original BB RS 4 speed car.Joe put a Non RS fiberglass nose on it,Dana 60 and Mopar 4speed trans.Big Danny R and Pete Dedella were owner and driver of that Original Copo 427 69 Chevelle.Car was bought new in Jersey City NJ by Pete.I believe the dealership was Holsey Chevrolet in JC. Car has been in Sweden since the mid 70's.Did not get sold with the original COPO 427 motor.John Masons 69 Chevelle was a rare L89 1969 Chevelle 396 car.I believe he bought it from Wallace Chevrolet in Linden NJ where he was a mechanic back then before moving to AZ.John also owned a a Burnish Brown 1969 COPO Camaro that was dragraced briefly at Englishtown Raceway Park NJ.That car ended up on the street in NJ.John lives in CA now.I met Brooklyn Heavy Rufus Boyd at Joes Spinos new Neighborhood Garage in JC 2 years ago.Now for something interesting I just found.Go to page 1 of this topic and look where I mention that a certain Richard Thomas was the original owner of this 69 Black 427 Chevelle.I mentioned it said Prosecuter on the car.Well I found a old Black and white picture of a old 1963 Z11 409 Impala Dragcar and it says "Prosecuter"on front fender.Car ran out of New Rochelle NY.Could this be the same guy that owned the 69 Black Chevelle the Trenton Bros have?Car looks black too. Closer to Motion Territory if you look up New Rochelle on the map.

All you guys who have been following the saga of the '69 Yenko Chevelle "L88" will love this. I got a message from Michael a couple days ago explaining what he had and its "significance". This threw up a red flag immediately...as I really only buy and sell cars from the '30's through the '50's as well as sports cars and sometimes exotics, but never muscle cars. I did just list a '64 GTO on eBay so that must be where he found me. But with a car supposedly so "big", a person really should be talking to an acknowledged expert or a big auction house, not me.

Anyway, I called the guy back and, boy, what a mistake. He kept me on the phone for 35 minutes. His "story" for how he acquired it is a hoot, so I have to tell you all. He claimed to be a rebellious 17-year-old youth in 1969-1970 whose father was an old-school marine who fought in The Battle of the Bulge. His father sent him to Catholic school and tried to instill some discipline in Michael, but nothing worked (or so the story goes). All he could think about was goofing-off and cars, and one car in particular that he had seen in magazines and at the drag strip. The "one-of-three" Yenko Chevelle L88.

The nuns at the school had had it with this kid and called in the father. After much debate, the nuns told the father what he had to do. Buy the car for the kid (at a big-buck price of $6000 in 1970, which would buy two modest new cars), lock it away, and not give it to him until the kid got straight A's. Michael said it worked, and he went on in life to collect four patents and collect big royalties (for what he did not say).

This story went off on several tangents such as the German strategy during The Battle of The Bulge and what is apparently his other great love, baseball. (At times, I would just put the phone down on the desk and do other work while he talked...since he never took a breath he never noticed that I wasn't listening).:o

The baseball thing diverged into the next tangent of the story...that Reggie Jackson once knocked on his door. He "told" him ;), "Look Reggie, I know why you're here. You're here for my car, and I'm sorry, I love you, man, but you're not going to get it". At this point, Reggie pulled from his jacket a baseball...a baseball he said was one of the three he hit out of the park in his famous World Series game. "The car for the ball", was the offer (seems fair right? one of three for one of three), and although Michael was "tempted", bless his heart, he decided to keep the car!:hurray:

His story now is that he must sell the car immediately to buy into a business...and if he misses out on buying-in this car will be off-the-market. If everything else he told me is true  at least this is an obvious lie as he has had the car market forever.

But the fact is that everything he says is a lie and he knows it. This man is a criminal and looking for a stooge such as myself whose only knowledge of Yenko Chevelles is that they built 99 of them. He is also oh-so-foolish as he doesn't seem to realize that in this wired world in which we live, his story can be checked out and dismissed in two minutes by anyone who knows how to use a search engine.

When he calls me back, and I'm sure he will, this is what I will tell him: that if he is successful in selling the car for anything close to what he is asking ($1M by the way), that one of three things is going to happen: if he's lucky he will end up in civil court and lose everything he owns. More probably he will end up in Federal prison (and I'll be happy to testify for the prosecution). Or, if he really sells it to the wrong person, he'll end up in a back alley with a bullet in the back of his head.

This sort of scam used to be possible years ago, but not any more, and this guy just doesn't seem to get it. He entertained quite a bit, really gave me a lot of laughs for the last couple days, and for that I thank him. But in reality, he is purely a criminal scumbag.

Saw the car in his shed and took a bunch of photos. Have heard the same stories and decided to stop wasting time on this one. The Reggie story is about 3 years old. Did he tell you about LLoyds of London coming out to see it also. He not only wants a lot of money but wants it in cash also.... I have about 60 photos from the visit. I wonder if he took some of that Patent money to fix his roof on his house. He does have some real good stories, but seems to know his cars too. He is not as dumb as he comes across. Many years of studying those magazines.
My opinion is that the car was Black to start with and painted, it still had masking tape on a lot of the rubber and that looked 20 years old. The miles could be correct as certain things on the inside show that. He does have period correct parts in the car. But then that goofy shifter which he did say he upgraded later on. It could have been a race car but not a Yenko.
Curious why Kruse pulled it. He needed to sell with them and get jerked around while waiting to get paid from them after it sells if it would sell.

When is someone going to make a movie out of this story ??
