I've got a '71 Chevell SS I've broken it down to the frame, my question is what's a good suspension upgrade. I dont want to spend alot but I want something better than stock that'll give good performance.

A good set of springs and sway bars would be a nice start. Otherwise, replacing all the old and worn out bushings and ball joints works wonders.

I am in the same situation, with my 70 chevelle, except I don't have the frame removed yet. I am looking at getting a new good set of springs and shocks. I would call Mark from
Savitske Classic and Custom and check out their website.

Mark posts on this site regulary and I have heard many good things about him and SC&C. Hopefully, the economy willing I will be buying some springs and shocks from them next year.

Thats for the help, I've got some extra cash so I think I'm gonna go with a complete suspension overhaul. New upper and lower tubular arms in the front and a new rear end upper and lower trailing arm and of course new springs all the way around. I just dont know if i should go with Hotchkis or Detroit Speed and Engineering.

Neither... Hotchkis uses "junk" B-body spindles, and DSE's stuff is just too expensive for what you get IMHO.

Call Mark at SC&C ( www.scandc.com )

From personal experience.....

I replaced with CCP, upper & lowers, front and rear. Added sway bars and disc brakes.

The smart thing? Disc brakes.

The waste of money?

Tubular upper and lowers etc etc.

THe factory stuff works well. Unless you are looking for dress up, (and if I was doing it again), use the factory stuff.

Just my experience.... poorer but experienced.

I went with Poly bushings, and an oversized sway bar kit. Stock springs and control arms.

CONSIDER THIS!!! Do you want to race it or drive it? Honestly...I think the system I have is just a little bit too stiff for my tastes. It handle extremly well in the corners..significantly less body roll than a stock rubber bushing and stock sway bar setup. I have 15x8 and some pretty good rubber and I can feel every bump in the road. My car is a driver and I would rather it be more comfortable.

So unless you are racing...go with a stock setup with some upgraded hardware like bushings and swaybars. AND DONT FORGET TO GO WITH AT LEAST FRONT DISCS!!
