How can I cut down on the white smoke from the exhaust?

Welcome to Team Chevelle Red!! - the best site around for everything Chevelle...

My only experience with a lot of white smoke has been a bad head gasket leaking coolant into the combustion chamber - I hope that isn't your trouble.... (hows your coolant level?) Does it do that after it is fully warmed up?

I just replaced the head gaskets so I don't think that is the problem. Yes it does do it even when warm yet it is worse with it is cold. The other thing is the deffinintion of alot. It has been a long time since I have regularly drove an older car. I guess my alot I mean a visiable about and a smellable amount when at stop lights, by the way it's a convertable.

What smell? Gas? If it's gas, sounds like maybe you are running rich. You didn't mention what carb you have. Pull your spark plugs and see if you aren't running rich. If you are running rich, drop your main jets down a size or two and see what happens.
