I have a 1967 chevelle malibu. 350 engine. I recently put on a longneck water pump. Due to the barings going out on short neck water pump. So with that I also switched the alternator from the driver's side to the passenger side. I got all the right parts. Pulley's, brackets, belts. Now the pulley on the balancer wines. I have tighten the belts on the alternator and the powersteering pump. The noise went away on the powersteering, but on the alternator belt. So with that, I put belt dressing on the pulley. It does not make any noise until the dressing dries. I am thinking I might need a shorter belt. But not sure. Need some answers

Welcome to Team Chevelle, the best site for all there is about Chevelles!
How is the alignment between pulleys, are they co-planar (parallel in both the up and down direction and the side to side direction)? Use a straight edge to check.
How tight are the belts? Almost a half inch give in the middle between pulleys when you press with your thumb?

Thanks for welcoming me aboard. I've had her since "93. She is my pride and joy.
The alignment between the upper pulley and lower pulley seem to be a just a hair off. They are parallel up and down but not side to side. I will try the straight edge method. The alternator belt is, I think too tight. No. Not until I turn on the car and turn it off that it gives that half inch give when I press with my thumb on it. I also found out that my alternator was cocked back to far. That could also be braking the belts. I have gone thru 3 belts in two days. I think I'm wearing down the battery. I put another alternator on. And the voltage is just going crazy on it, 14 to 16 back and forth. Thank you for the info. I will be trying this to night.

I am not an electrical expert, but I think if the voltage on your gauge is going well over 14 to 15 or more, you may have a regulator problem....not sure.

I am not sure what you mean here? If it is tight one time, and not another, it could be that your pulley (crank) is out of round..??
