This is probably a very simple fix, but I just can't figure it out. On my '67 Chevelle, I bought a new headlight Knob/Rod and removed the old one. I assumed when I pushed the new one in it would simply click into place and that would be it. However, I can't get it to stay in when I pull it it just comes back out again and does not turn the headlights on.
What's the trick?

The little button you pushed to remove the old one should have been pushed before installing/pushing in the new one. What you have done is pushed the "switching mechanism" back to the back of the light switch. I had to actually take the light switch assembly out of the car and take the metal cover off of the plastic carefully not to loose any springs and such. Then install the rod into the mechanism, then rebuild the switch. It is pretty straight forward.

Try just holding the little release button down while you stab in the knob stem. Be persistent, jiggle it, push and pull and it may go right in with a little luck. Put a little touch of a lube on the end of the stem point.

The "trick" is to try to find one made in the USA.
