: Manual trans swap questions
Laguna37 Dec 11th, 08, 8:16 PM I've got a 75' Laguna S3, factory 350/TH350 trans car and I want to swap in a 4-speed. My Dad's vette has an M-22 rock crusher and I love the sound that thing makes, so my ideal plan would be to swap one of those in.
The biggest thing standing in my way is all the non-trans related stuff I would need, like the clutch pedal, cylinder, linkages, etc etc...
I know there are 4-speed Laguna's out there, but finding one as a donor car will likely be impossible, so does anyone know if the 4-speed setup out of any other cars will work for my Laguna?

PaPa Johns 77 Dec 12th, 08, 10:03 AM I got mine off of ebay. Sometimes thet stuff is pretty pricey. The pedals and linkage usually comes out of a 73-77 ElCamino with a straight six three on the tree. A local yard had one sitting last spring with all the linkage. Don't know if it survived the last round of high steel price crushings though.
I believe I saw a repro kit for those years at www.thepartsplaceinc.com

figbash Dec 12th, 08, 3:56 PM You may want to price an M-22 before you get too excited, they don't come cheap.

And try to find a friendly boneyard that will hunt the pedal conversion up for you through their "watts line" to save you some money.
I bought a complete 1980 Cad Seville rear disc brake set-up off one for like $75 years ago that was found in like NE or maybe MN.
It's worth a try if there are no "Pick-A-Part" yards around??

Tom makes a good point here, BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT, I think that the most difficult thing you're going to be up against is finding complete clutch linkage components for a 73-77 A-body. Although there are a lot of people who like this era of GM styling, these cars just DO NOT have the popularity of 72-earlier or 78-later bodies. Consequently, the aftermarket hasn't even jumped on this market as they have for the other body styles. So, regardless of the price of a manual tranny for your car, If you can't locate the required clutch linkage parts, your're dead in the water!
Fortunately, I ordered my 76 brand new with a 5sp and I really like it.

PaPa Johns 77 Dec 13th, 08, 12:41 PM Tom! Why does that shifter arm look like the one I had in my 1965 Dodge Polara???
Do you have the part # for that arm?
Laguna37 Dec 13th, 08, 6:22 PM I found a 4-speed swap kit for 73-77 Chevelle's, the kits description is as follows..
KIT INCLUDES PEDALS, Z-BAR, PEDAL TO Z-BAR ROD, CLUTCH FORK BOOT, CLUTCH FORK, CLUTCH ROD BOOT & RETAINER, PUSH ROD, ENGINE BALL STUD, SPRINGS, Z-BAR BRACKETS, SPRING CLIPS, AND NYLON WASHERS
Aside from the stuff in that kit, and then buying the transmission, bellhousing, shifter, and a clutch kit, is there anything else I would need?

A flywheel, a Shifter boot, I used a super boot the smaller ones kept tearing.
The best way would to be to find the tunnel hump but good luck on that!
