mmurphy77 Dec 11th, 08, 12:22 AM From the pictures I'd say it looks in great shape! You have to understand that for the most part you will never get close to the money back that was spent on a restoration. It should be done as a labor of love and NOT as an investment to try to make money on. That being said, if you enjoy the car, go for it. Do what you can afford to do. The body looks great and the paint looks good. Maybe replace the interior and small cosmetic things without incapacitating it and enjoy it for what it is. My 2 cents.
RyanNilcea05 Dec 11th, 08, 10:27 AM Hi! I have a quick qustion for you. In the picture where the dash is shown, what is the switch next to the lighter? I know that in the coupes and sedans, that's where the rear de-fogger switch would be.
Peloose Dec 11th, 08, 10:37 AM What Mike said. For an investment, don't restore it.
RyanNilcea05 Dec 11th, 08, 10:59 AM The car looks nice by the way!
72 Custom Elky Dec 11th, 08, 11:05 AM Kirk, I agree with Mike also "RESTORING" is a very misleading word here too, If you want or thinking about restoring it then you must have plenty of patience and also money as it can be very time consuming and expensive to do a "Restoration" as Bill Rose has done on his elky.
Just read thru his thread and decide if you really want to go this far with yours :http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=197821
Or you can do as I have on mine and repair whatever needs to be repaired/replaced, get a good paint job, drive it and enjoy it. It's all about what "YOU" want to do with your elky.

mmurphy77 Dec 11th, 08, 7:32 PM Hey thanks i plan on getting it painted and getting engine rebuilt and redoing interior just to make it a nice enough to show off
Sounds great - you're lucky to have something that nice to start with. Just promise to keep posting before and after pictures of your progress!
Jim Mac Dec 11th, 08, 11:07 PM just remember, it costs as much to redo a elcamino as a chevelle. for some reason the chevelles sells for 3X more than a elcamino. That being said, you can haul 3X more stuff in your elcamino. Jim
urleycay Dec 13th, 08, 7:55 PM I am in upto my eyeballs in my body off 71 SS elky, But since I am NOT going to see the money I actually will have in it. $20,000 so far I am gonna do it my way. just started the body panel replacements. The frame and all suspension is powder coated the motor is a 461 w, Gm alum perf heads a new M22. The interior is all redone except I need new SS dash and all the wiring.O yeah its a factory AC car that I will retain. I am gonna keep interior stock and motor compartment w/ cowl hood hardware working but the floors , inner fenderwells under hood will all be painted same color of car Copperhead w/ black stripes. I moral of story is If your doing an elky do it for yourself the way you want it and ENJOY it. Don,t but it to sell it unless you get it for free.
