I put in my new tach and went on drive to test it out. It worked fine the whole time until i went to turn around-i punched it and it quit working. It would jump when i let off the gas, but when i was pushing the gas it would go straight to zero. Thanks in advance

Is your tach lead coming through the firewall causing you to short it out when you hit the gas?

Well, i dont know for sure. I wouldn't think so but how can that be fixed if it is shorting out. I dont know a thing about electrical --so be specific please.

The tach lead is the wire that connects to the distributor or the coil and runs back to the tach. Where it connects to the motor depends on what ignition you have. This wire is green I believe.
Make sure ALL your connections are good.
If you stripped wire and wrapped them together and taped them, then undo all and either solder and heat shrink or at the very least use some squeeze on connectors with the proper crimp tool.
Check you power wire to the tach.

And if you put the wires thru a convenient hole in your firewall make sure that there is a grommet in the hole. So that your wire doesn't ground into the chassis.
