Hello again men....

Does anybody drive their chevelle daily? If so, what are the advantages of driving your chevelle on a daily basis vs driving a more fuel efficent vehicle?

I ask this because I have a 2008 Pontiac Vibe...but the sucker cost $250 a month in car payment. Plus gas. Plus insurance. I have the 1970 chevelle, and my fiance just paid off her 2001 camry.

Im thinking of selling the Vibe and driving the chevelle. Insurance is less, gas will be more. But the chevelle is paid off. I will save money if I sell the vibe and drive the chevelle.

I drive 25 minutes to downtown Louisville everyday and have a private company parking garage with security. So I dont care about parking it downtown.

Is there any reasons to keep the Vibe that you guys can think of? My fiance works from home, so if I have to I can drive the Camry to work. We have no kids....

You will take a bath if you sell the Vibe, depreciation. Will gas prices stay low forever? What about the insurance and theft on the 70? I too have thought about using the 69 as a DD but it seems like it has a bullseye on it when I drive it in the city. I would rather beat up a newer car and let the older one enjoy its retirement.

Try to pay the Vibe off early. I'd keep it, it should last you a long time.

the 70' gets attention, but I am parking in a private garage downtown....insurance is less on the chevelle because of antique status. My insurance will go up soon because I will be graduating. I have student discount, good grades discount, multiple car discount. All that will go away when I graduate.

I wouldn't drive the 70' anywhere else but to work and back home. I could install a kill switch and locks on the hood pins if I had to take it somewhere where I couldn't park in a private spot. I dont care if someone steals the wheels. They are Stock repro's 15 x 8's

If you have antique insurance one of the stipulations usually is you don't drive it to work.

Keep the Vibe until your not upside down in it.

Can you keep that "antique" insurance if you are using it as a daily driver to commute to work in? I thought for this type of insurance there were limitations, mainly that its not a daily driver.

I owe 11,000 on the vibe. Its worth 16,000-17,000 as is. And about the insurance...what the insurance company don't know wont hurt em'.

If you can sell the car then go for it, personally I would keep it because it was probably $20,000 new so you are taking a $4,000 hit in one year. $250 a month is a cheap payment. The problem you will have is if something happens to the car or you are in an accident, especially one that is your fault the insurance company will find out.

Also keep in mind the book may say 16-17 but since manufactures are wheeling and dealing a buyer could purchase a new car for the same amount. Most likely the value is closer to 13-14

Collector insurance will not allow you to drive the car daily... If you can get an "Agreed Value" regular car policy, you could get insurance to cover it for daily use.

I'd love to drive a classic daily, but winters here kill that idea... The fact my work shares a parking-lot with the unemployment office is another reason I won't do it. :o

I daily drive mine. I would guess 20mpg+ highway with the LS1 swap as well. My insurance is an agreed value policy like Derek mentioned. Just had to get an appraisal. I would rather not be daily driving it but its all I have. If I had to think of one advantage, I would say for every mile I drive and year this thing gets older it doesn't go down in value much compared to a newer vehicle.

I drive mine daily back and forth to work and my kids activities. About 7,000 miles a year. Mine isn't a high dollar restore or factory original but, there are days I wish I had another car to drive on snow days (cue Ponitac Vibe) but I wash the road gunk off and keep it in the garage at night.

I have agreed value insurance without mileage limitations so I can drive as little or as much as I want which is nice.

I looked into public transportation, but here in Lincoln it's pretty limited unless you want to go downtown and it would cost just as much as I'm spending on gas for the Chevelle to drive. So, I'd rather drive my car instead and have the freedom to come and go without having to work around a schedule. Ain't it great.

I drive mine knowing in a few years I'll have to redo parts of the body that do get dinged up or start to rust so I'm starting to save some cash for when that time comes. I the mean time, I'm having fun driving it.

No, but it'll hurt you if you file a claim and they then know that you were driving it daily.

If you want to get out from under the Vibe, sell it for what you can get and buy a $2000-$3000 small reliable car to drive daily. Less on insurance, less on gas costs and it would be paid for.
