: Trans or converter problem?

I have a 700r4 behind a 385, in my 70' El Camino. Recently, the trans feels like it's slipping, in all forward gears. I'm pulling it and having my transmission builder inspect the internals. But, the converter is an inexpensive 2600 stall unit, so I'm wondering, .... could a bad converter also cause this "burned/slipping clutches" symptom? Either way, the trans is coming out. Thanks

Brian, If it is the torque convertor, than it should effect reverse operation also. Did you check fluid level and condition, and do a pan examination? The "sniff" test always tells alot about condition of transmission.

Jim, I've mis-read the dipstick a couple of times, ...was actually low after a recent pan change. Plus, been down the track with slicks a few times also, which with a 700 can be iffy. I'll proceed and have the trans looked at. Thanks
