It looks like it'll take $25K plus the price of the car to make it a nice cruiser. Great documentation, but Cleveland is the snow belt (salt)
ss1970chev454 Dec 10th, 08, 9:36 AM this car sold for 7k just last month on ebay. It came from PA from an apparent long time owner. The car is either being flipped, the condition was not as expected, or he has to sell it.
and John, from I have seen, this car is probably better than the one you have. Still going to need a bunch of work.
It is also, the only BAL CV I know of with a Broadcast Sheet.
1badss396 Dec 10th, 08, 10:55 AM I see lots of bubble rust on the passenger side of the car. I would sure look at the car before you buy it.
tanner Dec 10th, 08, 11:31 AM John, I'm doing a vert as we speak. I paid 5000.00 for it less the motor. I also got it from a person that had the car since he was 19 but he didn't have the money to restore it. Parts are kind of hard to get for a 68 especially the quarter panels , they are just not around . You can get coupe quarters and cut them down but I couldn't find a vert panel, also the inner wheel wells are different for a convertible.

6t7gto Dec 10th, 08, 1:22 PM I just spoke with the owner and he stated he is looking for 15k.
Reason for selling: more work than he anticipated.
Some rust on the frame where gear box bolts up.
Otherwise he said frame is in good shape.

ss1970chev454 Dec 10th, 08, 1:57 PM you bet
BTW
IMO, out of the 2394 cars made, I figure alittle less than half are left.
This car is also in the TC classifieds
malibuss67 Dec 10th, 08, 2:06 PM hello everyone,i am the person who won the car on ebay BLACK79GMC. i did not get the car because the seller immediatly had remorse and wanted a lot more money for it .It went to someone else and it was much more then 7k
ss1970chev454 Dec 10th, 08, 2:11 PM hello
welcome to the discussion. :)
gotta' name?
and are you in Parma or Long Island?
Good Luck with your sale.
BTW, John needs a good solid car :D
1badss396 Dec 10th, 08, 4:08 PM Any thing more than 10K-12K too much. Dont think it will sell for 15K:noway:
I dont see a rolling tach in that car either.
I hope someone can prove me wrong that way it will make mine worth that much more:D
Tal7123 Dec 10th, 08, 6:40 PM I would have thought by having the winning bid on ebay a person would have had a legal contract. I saw this car last month, but it has now been cleaned up alittle. I thought some one got a good buy at 7k, but it went for a lot more. He is asking 15K wow, it is in better shape than my rust bucket, by I paid a lot less. I would have given 7K for it all day long. I have just finish purchasing my parts. I bought alot of new/used part that has a little surface rust. I am ready to start replacing parts. The 25K estimate in returning this car to a nice cruiser must been having some else do all your work. I got all my parts for 2.5K. I got an estimate from body professional to install all parts and paint for 10K. In this case, I would only have about 20K invested. I have to money budgeted for 25K but I decided to do most the work myself in stages and pay myself. I replacing the cowl at this time.
Tal7123 Dec 10th, 08, 6:47 PM Brad
I second that, I like the documentation but would not go more that 10K. There will be lot must rust issues the buyer thinks. I see door, quaters, door skins, floor pan, trunk pan, top, engine, and more. Hopefully, not the cowl, but I would not be suprised.
I hope he gets 15K, which means I would have hope of breaking even, if I decided to sell my project midway through.

I do all my own work, except paint and engine parts machining. I gave the $25K figure. I believe this is a low but achievable price. Keep us updated on your progress and give us a general idea what the finished $ was.
ss1970chev454 Dec 10th, 08, 8:24 PM I don't know, I think Ed's pretty close with his estimation. It always...always cost more than you think it's going too.
Tal7123 Dec 10th, 08, 8:39 PM I did not take in to consideration the rebuild of the engine. No sure of the cost. I went to school for that back in 1986, and never used what I learning. I wonder could I rebuild one! Thaks for the information, I will keep you guys and gals posted.
czeto Dec 12th, 08, 9:59 AM I started with my own car. Paid for body work and engine rebuild but doing everything else myself. It will be a good restore but not a show car. I'm past the $30K mark and still going strong and it hasn't moved a inch yet. Good luck.

The money adds up quickly, I would think the body and engine were the big ticket items. When you said, gave you cost for body work, did this include the paint? I have 82000 miles on my car, I think I am just going to have my carb. rebuild and detail my engine for now.
1badss396 Dec 12th, 08, 3:43 PM I paid 10K for my car in this condition.

Looks like it was a very solid project to start with! Do you think you could have gotten away with not doing a frame off? Looks good !!!

:noway::noway:not a chance it was a mess on the inside:yes:it was crying for a frame off.
7-t-elco Dec 12th, 08, 9:34 PM Brad, you have a very nice looking car, good job.:yes:
czeto Dec 13th, 08, 5:08 PM It was $10k for the body work (not frame) and paint. The car has been in the NE all its life so lots of rust. The engine rebuild was $5k. (remember I'm in NJ). Legendary Interior, $1k, new top, $1.5k, four redline tires, $700, new wires, $1.5k, exhaust, $500, rebuild starter, brake master cylinder, carb, etc, etc, $$$$$$$$$ plus 450 hours of my labor so far. I figure about $35k before I drive it (not trailer it)to the Maryland show. This will be a driver. I'll post pictures as soon as I
