Should someone want a 69 SS an unrestored car is the best place to start. There should be a trail of evidence that will let you believe it is or is not. The condition of the original parts, the fit of the date codes, true SS fenders, no filled in malibu trim holes, and verifying if it is the original engine will help seperate fact from fiction. If it retains the original black bumper filler you are even closer as it was unigue to the SS .

The L code on the trim tag will just help confirm what else is there. Yes it has not been proven as fact but it has not been disproven. After close examination a person has to be comfortable with his own decision and not worry about what anyone thinks. From that point on the car will be judged by the quality of the build.
