hey guys; what is your opinon of the silver 70 L-78 car in ebay. The number is 330292790785. It looks initially pretty good. I have a severe addiction to 70SS's and this one is going to break me if I buy it so I try to sanity check things out. He wants $36,500 for a buy it now. Interestingly the trim tag shows an 11b (2nd week of nov) but the engine casting date is K-11-9 (same week-that seems pretty tight to me. He has a build sheet but you can't pull a vin off of it . No discussion of matching # on block, or trans. I appreciate any and all discussions on this car. Respectfully, Rick K

Hey Rick, I agree the casting date for the block is tight but not totally impossible to be the original block. The price is very good if it's the original motor, tranny and rear. It's too bad the pictures are of such poor quality. Call him up and ask for more info and clearer pictures of the pad stamp, head casting dates, tranny date and stamp, and rearend codes. While your at it, ask if it has a real 837 alt. and a 2000 dist. It's missing other stuff like the TCS and smog but at least you'll have an idea of what big items are there or not that belong with the car. The tach is also a repro, so make note of that. Post the pad stamp picture the pros will let you know what they think. Good luck.

Its actually nice to see what appears to be a real nice car for realistic money. Hopefully,it is what it appears to be

Update, 0931 am, Jacksonville, fla time: well gang, I spoke to joe, the owner about what 704ever recomended. First, he tells me front pad is bare, nothing stamped there, I asked him to double check again. Next, no 837 alternator or 2000 distributor, has no pictures of head castings. He indicated he will try to get pictures of trans and rear end stampings. Also, I noticed in his photos, on passinger side of floor pan, one single what appears to be large fuel line held by single clips. Currently installed exhaust manifolds do not look drilled for A.I.R. tubes-incorrect for L78.

I just noticed it doesn't have the correct intake.
If the quality of the car is there..and its not a real L78 or if its a NOM L78..price isn't really outta line.
JMHO and experience.

Its not crazy money for the car even if the motor is not #'s matching. I don't think you would be to far wrong if you check the car out and its in the shape it looks like it is. For sure if you can get it for less.

Nice car, appears to be a frame off or a high quality frame on.

Priced decent really. Look at the frame and belly pans.

To expect a numbers matching L78 restored to this level of detail at that price is unrealistic.

The pic of the build sheet looks pretty good too, but I'd need to see the whole sheet to determine.

Looks like those floor pans are full of rust at the spot weld areas. And if its what mine were like its at least a quarter inch of rust and scale, or maybe more. You need to look real close.

Mine looked better then that and they were loaded with rust.

Rick, I'm not surprised at the answers to your question, the BIN is reflective of that, I believe it's much too low for an original L78 with a frame off. Nice car in it's own right but with so many unanswered questions and so many important parts missing you'd have to treat it as such.

Seems like a suspect date for the motor. The date for my 402 on my 71 is 9/2/70 and the build date for my car is 1D, four months later, and my block is 100% original to the car
