Changing from front drum to front disk brakes doesn't have anything to do with ride height.
Tom Mobley Dec 8th, 08, 7:57 PM Dean is right.
Do you want to just switch over to disc brakes with stock type parts or do you want a full kill setup with larger rotors and huge calipers?
alann Dec 8th, 08, 7:58 PM It sure does my friend if you use the drop spindles that is in most kits .

Tom Mobley Dec 8th, 08, 8:56 PM tell them you don't want dropped spindles. If they give you any stuff hang up and call somebody else.
This kit is a common, high volume item available from a number of vendors. Is there a vendor you've dealt with in the past that worked for you?

as you car is now, where is the brake proportioning valve located? It's usually either on a bracket under the master cylinder or or mounted to the inside of the frame rail behind the front crossmember.
Tom Mobley Dec 8th, 08, 9:16 PM that first one is $699.00, but looks like it contains the needed brake lines.
If you're skilled or adventurous you could just buy one of the sets of disc brake spindles and order up the rest of it locally. You would be on your own with the lines and other small parts though.
alann Dec 8th, 08, 10:21 PM Tom thank you you have been most help full, the prop valve is indeed behind the cross member near the frame rail .At this point classic performance has the kit i need i just sorted through it all and they do have the kit with out the drop spindles. So thanks for the heads up on that, i will order the kit and get it here it looks like a great kit and a simple install and best of all it is complete start to end.Again many thanks for the help and all who replied on all levels.

Tom Mobley Dec 9th, 08, 1:19 AM I remember, I bought my 70 Malibu in 87 from original owner. Had 4 wheel non-power drums. I was poking around a friends wrecking yard, spotted a 72 4 door with power disc. engine was out and front sheetmetal off. I asked how much, guy said if I pull it, $50. I was back with tools in hand 30 minutes later. Got every piece, line, clip, bolts, everything. The M/C was bad, I went to a NAPA and bought a lifetime warranty rebuilt M/C. Still milking that today, 21 years later. :)
Tom Mobley Dec 9th, 08, 1:27 AM OK, Alann, when you talk to the people point out that your prop valve is down on the frame, try to make sure they get you the right stuff. In the pics it shows a bracket that mounts the prop valve off the M/C. This is OK, but will require the brake line to the rear brakes to be extended to reach the new valve. Try to pin them down on exactly how this is all going to work out. Truth is that a little work with a short piece of tubing and double-flare tool would fix that, but not everybody has the stuff or the skills.
THis is also a good time to go off on a massive front-end overhaul if you and the checkbook are up for it. Weak ball joints, bushings, steering parts, etc, etc. THere's no end to it all. ;)
