I need help. I went to crank my car for the first time in about a month last weekend and had some problems. It took a little longer to start up than it usually does but it did start and I let it warm up for about a minute and a half and was trying to let to rpms come down to idle, but the engine shut off and would never start back up after trying different things for quite a while. So I replaced the battery because I got tired of jumping the car off every time I wanted to crank it and put new spark plugs in it. I check to see if the plugs were giving out a spark after I installed all of them and sure enough they weren’t so…I have an Accel ignition system. I do not know if I need to replace the distributor or the super coil or how to tell which to replace. Do you think the battery going out had anything to do with the ignition system or jumping it off several times. Thanks for the help. If it matters this is on a ’90 454.
Thanks
Michael

Yes.....these systems or any high flutin systems for that matter are not good with inductive spikes on the DC bus. This could be the issue.

Quite frankly, unless you are turning over 6500rpms, have over 11 to 1 compression or using exotic fuels, a good aftermarket HEI or small body (original footprint) hi output coil and solid state trigger unit is all you need. I have empiracle proof of this with plenty of dyno info to boot.
