: Problems with new distributor

I had my Pertonix HEI installed and am having problems with it. I put in new plugs, wires and starter too. It starts ok and runs fine cold. After it warms up the problem starts. It stalls when slowing down to come to a stop or even just put into gear. The fuel filter is clean, the fuel is dripping fine in the carb. My mechanic and I have narrowed it down to this. What should I do? Any suggestions. Thanks http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

Which version is it? If it's the earlier version, then it would have required shims under the advance mechanism to remove the freeplay. I've heard of this happening if there is too much up and down movement of the distributor shaft.

It is a new version. I just bought it before the end of last year. I think there is a dead spot that is causing the sudden kills. The starter is also dragging now too. Strange happenings.

I'd have to say check the charging system. Sounds like your losing power and its causing the car to shut off, no power = no fire in the hole. I say this because you mentioned the starter was becoming hard to turn.

I had to increase the idle to get it to run and idle correctly. I found out I have a 360 intake manifold (previous owner) installed. It is a racing manifold and not the stock one which has the chambers for the carb. It has one big hole. I will probably decrease idle as need to find the spot before the kills start again. Thanks for the help.
