but what about the driveability
the reason i`m asking is in my boat i have a
mercrusier 230= chevy 305
and it did not run over 3250 rpm
no way it would just spit from the carb
??? and the valves was LOOSE

Basically if you set valves loose you are no longer opening them as much as when they are adjusted to spec. Instead of lifting the valve off its seat at the proper time all you are doing is taking up the extra clearance.

This has the effect of :
#1 retarding valve timing with respect to piston position.
#2 providing you with less valve opening which reduces the amount of air your engine can pull in.

all in all not a good idea.
