: Edelbrock LSX Header Fitment Issues

Anyone here running the Edelbrock LSX swap headers? I just picked up a set for my '66 Chevelle project. I have an '05 LS2/T56 setup from a GTO and the passenger side isn't fitting very well. One of the tubes is hitting the bell housing where it juts out for the starter and another one is awfully close to the lower control arm bracket on the frame. I figure that one is a matter of moving the engine a little further forward, but that'll take a little doing as my CTS-V pan is about touching the crossmember. I'm mostly concerned about the tube touching the bell housing. Has anyone run into this, and if so, what'd you do about it? I'm not sure how much I like the two options I can think of. Dimpling the tube or grinding the housing. Your guy's thoughts?

no issues at all here, but i have a 70. i did a gp on the headers so i saw both styles and there really wasnt much of a difference.

what plates are you using? my engine is setback some and it is a little close (3/8") to the rear lca mount.

also, what bell are you using? theres really nothing you can do there. either grind the bell or bend the tube.

Have you called Edelbrock tech support. I have the 68-72 version for my 72 and they fit VERY well. They should for $600.00. I would give em a call.

Just for reference. I know that my Hooker swap headers are very close if not touching at the starter. Talking thousandths of an inch.

Anyone have pics of the Edelbrock LSX headers installed? I'm planning to get them, but would like to see them first... particularly the ground clearance. :)

I would contact Edelbrock as others said. Moving the engine around, engine plates and stands will factor the fitment. It would seem that would take care of one problem but it seems the bell housing would not be effected by plates or stands?? I would be most worried about that as I am sure you are. I have a 69 with ATS plates and they fit fine. I wanted to move the engine back a little further and when I did the #1 tube on drivers side touches a little. Nothing a little notch won't take care of. If you have not already take a look on LS1 Tech as a factory guy was posting in the Edelbrock header thread.

To answer some of the questions, here goes: No, I haven't contacted Edelbrock yet, it was just this past weekend that I test fit them, so, didn't figure there'd be any chance of getting anyone. I did post on LS1Tech on the Edelbrock header thread also. As far as what plates I'm using, I routed my own on the CNC router at work based on measurements found on LS1Tech. I'm also using the stock '05 GTO T56 bellhousing. And yeah, I'm mostly concerned about the headers hitting the bellhousing.

i wanna say it is from the cts-v oil pan actually, i had one on my car and removed due to fitment issues. i would recomm if you wanna use the oil pan and headers, to bolt it all up then set it into place and redrill the frame from there for fitment. i objected all the mods due to frame being powdered coated and got autokraft oil pan (it is sweet!!!!) i would go about different if i could start from strach with my car again simple mistake are a lession learned though. brandon

Well...Looks like I need to find a different manufacturer. The Edelbrocks won't fit a '05 GTO LS2/T56 combo. It's apparently an oddball with a different starter/bellhousing setup. Anyone dealt with this combo before? If so, can you recommend a different manufacturer? Don't want to buy and try any others without knowing for sure they'll fit.

Can you just swap to a different bellhousing? I was under the impression that most of the LS1/2 drivetrain was interchangeable. It'd be easy to find an F-body bellhousing. Maybe even a McLeod or Lakewood bellhousing/scattershield?

Maybe. But I'd still have starter interference issues and would need to get a LS1 starter and hope it works. I already bought an aftermarket MSD starter to see if it'd help(didn't) and want to use it if possible. I think it'll be easier to get some midlength or shorty headers, if necessary, and make them work.
