oldtimebaseballfan Dec 7th, 08, 9:45 AM I agree with James.
ftrplt Dec 7th, 08, 10:02 AM If they went for any less than 1200$ a piece I would be surprised. Even at Carlisle I didn't see an individual NOS fender going for less than a 1000$ depending on condition of course.
bookmaker19 Dec 7th, 08, 10:11 AM Probably somewhere close to $3000.

Agreed, nothing less than $1,200 each!!!:yes: I guess the sheet metal I have sitting in the basement is/was a good investment?:yes:
L72Chevelle Dec 7th, 08, 10:37 AM A pair on the Yenko site is listed for $3200.00.
savage71chevelless Dec 7th, 08, 10:38 AM When did GM stop making the sheetmetal for these cars? Obviously with the stamps on the cardboard, they made them until at least 89. I guess my question would be, if this stuff is so good and so valuable, why would GM stop making them? Most companies I know, if they have an extremely high quality product and high demand they don't stop making them. I guess that is one reason GM is on the verge of bankruptcy now. These prices are insane though. Whoever bids $3,000 of whatever it ends up at, can keep them, I would rather buy repops for $600 a pair. Are they as good as GM? Probably not, but I can get a hell of a good body man to make them look as good and still have money left over to get them painted too.

partsseeker Dec 7th, 08, 2:00 PM Well, personally, I think he ought to just give them to someone as worthy as myself. Then they could go to good use on the restoration of my 70 ss ragtop.:D:D:D What a nice Christmas present.

The reason they are so valuable is because they are no longer being made by GM. If GM were to start re-making them the price would come way down.
Dave Birdwell Dec 7th, 08, 8:07 PM I paid $200 for the last pair I bought.....back in 1987... :sad:
I agree with James, probably over $3000. I paid $1500 for a pair of non-desireable 71-72 fenders this last fall at the Auburn auction swap meet, and I thought I got a deal. :yes:
Pheadrus Dec 8th, 08, 1:15 AM Hi Guys
When I bought my LS6 the previous owner gave me a bunch of NOS parts with the car. Can anyone give me an idea of the values of these parts? Considering the condition of my car I probably won't need most of the sheet metal. I have NOS (with GM blue and white stickers);
full door skins
inner and outer wheel wells
front fenders
LS6 fuel pump
plastic inner fenders
The previous owner collected the parts over the last twenty years. He bought the parts in case of an accident or if anything happened to the body. He has more parts he hasn't given my yet. He calls me every couple of weeks with more NOS parts he forget to tell me he had!! He's a super guy and probably the most honest seller I've ever met. It's nice to know guys like him are still out there that aren't about $$$. The reason I ask is two fold. If I don't need the parts I may sell them to help with the resto costs and help other guys. But secondly, seeing the price of those fenders makes me think I should have them included in my house insurance in case of a fire or theft. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Steve.

They likely stopped making them because the tooling and stamping equipment wore out. Or, they didnt see a lot of money coming in from making parts for cars that are 20 plus years old. Im thinking it was more about the stamping equipment personally. After stamping thousands of parts over 20 years, the machines and equipment wear out and its not like you can find a replacement die to replace it with that many years later. You would have to spend thousands on making the parts to fix the machines that make the parts.
