Hello Guys,
I have got a problem with starting a 1954 inline six off a belair. well the car was running before but it idled very very low almost wanted to turn off. ran good once you would give it gas. so decided to give a tune up . new pluggs, gapped correctly, distributor cap, ignition coil,
spark plug wires, and points.the points were set to 18 gap.well I replaced every thing and left the distributor in original
position. but went to start it and no go...
it is a real pain because it is still six volt. so i checked all the wires for spark and was very weak,so i piut old coil and points back on and the spark was fine.cheked gas lines and was fine gas was reaching carb. i marked the distributor,
and loosend to rotate a bit and turned the engine over, to try to get TDC on number one
cylinder and the bistributor was set correctly to the acording wire. I tried to start with no luck. i want to know if any body has any advice on proceeding to get this started, also if any one knows the firing order on this type of engine?
I have not checked the compression yet
because this car is acually far from my house and didnt have my guage with me at the time. i am going back out this sat.
around what range should i look for on compression? if ok could i have a problem with the cam or heads at all????
i would really apreciate any advice thanks
edgar

If the engine was running ok before you did the tune up, all should be fine with the compression now. The firing order is 1 5 3 6 2 4

Consider replacing the condenser.

Good point Charbilly, I wish I thought of that.

i replaced all components and i put the old back on because the new coil, condenser, points were not producing a good spark the originals worked great. i exchanged the new ones and even those made to small of spark, i guess my real question is how to set the timing correctly, because i tied to do it by the mark i made and no
success....
