: Cleaning Ignition Wires
Riffers70 Oct 8th, 99, 4:42 PM I did a search on this, and didn't see anything that gave me a clear answer. My wires have some grease/oil/etc on them and generally just don't look nice. Anybody know a good way to clean them up without screwing them up? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Gene Chas Oct 8th, 99, 6:58 PM Fred, I wouldn't use the gritty orange stuff, use the thinner or WD40.
Riffers70 Oct 8th, 99, 7:11 PM Thanks Gene...good point
Be very carefull about excessive handling (especially bending). You could drive the resistance on the wire so high that it would fail to deliver spark if you bend them! This is especially true on noise-suppressed wires (the most common type).
DZAUTO Oct 8th, 99, 11:54 PM Lacquer thinner and plenty of clean rags. Just be patient and careful.

Gene Chas Oct 9th, 99, 5:16 AM Good point Cam. Fred I've waxed too any wires by rough handling. Now I run solid cores on the 67 and still handle them "surgically".
pro454chev Oct 9th, 99, 7:52 AM when you've cleaned them up put some silicone lube on them, i use this to even clean mine!

zioFrank Oct 10th, 99, 9:06 PM The tip about lubricant is good, but even more important with the HEI or other "High Output" ignition systems.
Don't know enough to explain, but most anyone here could confirm.
Later!
