: Not enough pressure to keep lifters pumped?

This is an ongoing saga. Every since I built my BB I've had poor lifter pump up. I just pulled the engine and put a new cam and lifter set in and put it back in the car. More noisy than before and I think I even flattened the cam. I have 60 Lbs of oil pressure and can't imagine why the oil only trickles out the rockers. Not to mention about 3or4 grand rapt up in the whole thing.
I'm thinking it is time to just pull it and let the pro's inspect everything and let them put it back together.

Stacey, I had the same problem 30 years ago with a brand new rebuilt BB. Seems that the early blocks around 66 required a different type of cam bearings to allow oil to get to the lifters. Mine had the later type of bearings installed that would not work with the hyd. cam. I ended up changing over to a solid lift cam. What year is your engine? If it is 65-66 you might want to check this out. rb6667

Stacey,
RB is correct about the early blocks. YOu have to use the correct cam bearing, and a grooved camshaft. With 60lbs of oil pressure, you should be getting plenty of oil up top, unless there is some other problem restricting oil to the top of the motor.

I wish it were the case. At least the saga would be over. No its a 76 454 out of a truck. The only thing that was changed was the heads. I went to the 781 oval ports.
My first cam was a comp 270. I couldn't get a light ticking out of the lifters, I tried new comp lifters to no avail. Now I put the crane cam and lifters and it idles rough and the lifters are quiet then rattle bad, then quiet.
