I havent heard much from Boyd Coddingtons shop since he passed away earlier this year. Is his widow Jo running it now and perhaps they stopped American Hot Rod for good?

His passing was almost swept under the carpet. Kind of sad in a way. Like him or hate him he loved cars like us. I really miss the show.

The shop is closed. Everyone is gone. I made a sales call out there for a company I do work for. Just selling wheels now.

Sad. I thought they sold the wheel company before his passing?

I was wondering the same thing a couple months ago and did some google searching. The rumor is that Dwayne demanded a raise and Boyd's wife fired him. She tried to run it for a few months, but I guess it was way too much for her.

They did and his ex-wife left Boyds to go with it if I'm not mistaken.

Yes his ex went with the wheel company when it changed hands. After all she owned more of it than Boyd did. Which probably explained why his ex was still around!
She actually want to stay with the shop but that wasn't about to happen. I'd say Jo put the kabosh on that idea.

His ex went with the sale to American Racing of the original wheel company.
The wheel company they talk about in the link I believe was a new startup for Boyd making wheels on a smaller scale.

If that's the case it's a shame, what was he thinking????? Only stands to reason that in a time of turmoil it's not a good time to demand a raise, in fact I seem to remember that even before Boyd passed the company was in trouble..

Sad deal. Boyd was the creative mind behind a lot of the hot rods he designed/built. Boyd IS (was) Boyd Coddington's. Hard to replace him. He had talented workers, but who would be the driven force to replace Boyd? I could see continuing to build hot rods if his son took over, but I guess that didn't happen.

I think Boyd's death got proper press. There were articles on the web, in newspapers, and magazines (some had front page pictures).

Thats too bad. I wasnt expecting thier shop to be out of business completely. They had a pretty good clientele going. Duane asking for more money doesnt supprise me, I never liked him. However, it did look like he was doing a lot of BS running around though and may have been a bit much for one guy. I also dont think I have ever seen him do a single hands on project ever. Does he even know how to do any fabrication?

Ever since I have been into cars, Boyd has been building hot rods. Just doesnt seem right that the shop doesnt exist anymore.

You're basing all this on a 1 hour a week mans soap opera? Come on. Do you know how much Duane was paid prior to Boyds passing? Do you know how much of a raise he asked for? Do you specifically know what he did with the other several hundred hours of time he had that we didn't see on shows?

Give me a break, how can you base any opinion whatsoever on what you saw on that show?

Yes it was all for TV. Anyone whoever met Boyd knew the show was a lot of BS!

Well obviously there is 2 sides to every story. What else is there to go on other then some tv show? You dont know the guy either right? Do you really think he put on some personna for the cameras and was a totally different person off camera? Its no secret he was not well liked by others in the shop, not well liked by people watching the show. Maybe the raise he asked for was reasonable maybe it wasnt. I made an observation that they did have him doing a lot of running around and trying to manage too many projects. which I made a note of in my previous post. I personally didnt care for him and most others didnt care for him either.

I could really care less how much he made or makes or how much of a raise he asked for, the amount he gets paid was not the basis of my post. Its more of his attitude that doesnt supprise me one bit.

Maybe he was asked to do more because with Boyd gone and Duane his right hand man. He knew the ropes a bit more and was asked to take on a heavier role to keep the shop alive, thus asked for a raise?

All I am saying is I don't think anyone should form an opinion on what they see or saw on that show. The show was 45 minutes tops every week, probably actually less than that even. Many of those shows covered a few weeks time. You know darn well the producers were taking the parts that they thought were the best TV, the parts that maybe showed some of the guys being jerks or screwing around or whatever, and made that the show. Just like American Chopper, that show is made for TV. Those shows are non-reality reality shows.

I certainly wont disagree with you. Case it point. That kid Bluebird or whom ever it was that worked for Boyd. He certainly didnt make himself look good on tv and got fired if I remember right. I read on the HAMB that he ended up working for Pete Chaporios(SP). Pete or someone within the shop posted that he is actually an excellent employee and very good at building hot rods. Any form of editing can make anyone out the way they want them to be. I dont buy into these reality shows but the hands on work they show is fun to watch. Could do without the drama and bickering back and fourth.

I wasnt a big fan of all the cars they built but I still think it sucks that Boyds shop is no longer in business.

I think BOYD had all the connections. NO one else in the shop did. I thought his SON ran the wheel part of it. So no wonder that the shop closed. And as far as Duane. He was an IDOIT. With for too much power for one guy. Never seen him do a project. All he could do was run his mouth. Duane if you read this. And don't like it. Look me up. Tough guy. Bet he in line getting getting his $180 a every two weeks. Oh i'd hire him in a minute. Just to give back to him . What he dished out!! nough said!!!

I seem to remember reading that Duane asked for the raise right after Boyd passed. Something about now that he has even more work on his shoulders he wanted to be paid more. I guess Jo took that as disrespect and fired him. I don`t know how true it is because it`s something I read online. He did look like a a** on TV but like everyone says, thats part of TV. I didn`t care for him at all especialy the way he yelled at people and belittled them. At any rate the hotrod industry lost a icon and nobody can fill those shoes.

My long term girlfriends brother is a pretty big celebrity who is very much the love him or hate him type in the public eye. Many may publicly call him an a hole but I can tell you personnaly he is a very good guy who works hard and provides for his entire family. Point is don't judge people by what you see and hear on tv. A lot of time it's bs
