Hi all. I have the subject problem and it is driving me crazy. I start my 454, fill the float bowls and everything is fine except for a "rich" smell at idle. I shut off the vehicle and within 12 hours the front bowl is drained to 1/2 while the rear is still full. I have changed power valve gaskets, metering block aand its gaskets. It persists. When I pull the carb, the intake floor is fiull of gas. When you pull the float bowl, there is fuel on the entire metering block and its gasket on the carb side. Some but very little in the power valve chamber.

I am wondering if there might be a crack somewhere or ???????

Any and all helo is appreciated.

Try replacing your power valve also. You may have porosity or a crack somewhere, but i think it is more likely a gasket issue.

Holley is quite helpful, you might want to give them a call also.

Levon,
Call John at AED and get his opinion. The guys there are great to deal with and very helpful. Most of the time, the secretary will only let you talk to them between 4 and 5 pm. That is the only way they get any work done !
Hope this helps,

Found the problem. It was the metering block not seating in the main body all the way. I drilled the drivers side hole deeeper and all is OK now.
AED was great to deal with. Very helpful!!!
